There were an abundance of smiles from fans and bands at Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park Saturday night as Wilco, Sleater-Kinney with special guest Chicago singer Nnamdi took the stage. After almost a year and a half of no live music, fans lined up early with vax card in hand or a negative covid test (per the bands request) to get in and finally experience some normalcy of being able to hear live music. Also for future knowledge, Cadence Bank Amphitheatre has started a “clear bag” policy for all future events.
Mother Nature managed to hold on the rains as each band gave a stellar performance. Nnamdi was super happy that the weather had cooled down and thanked Wilco for having him on the tour. Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein asked the crowd if this was their first show since covid and that they were excited to play and told their fans “We see you.” Wilco played an excellent selection from their eleven albums including a quick spoken word of “Heavy Metal Drummer” before just going a little past curfew with their last song “California Stars”.
Attendance seemed close to pre-covid levels, an encouraging sign for live music as we move into the fall.
