Happy Wednesday, Atlanta! This short week certainly has us feeling a little lackadaisical, but we’re pretty psyched to re-recharge our batteries with some hump day concert-going.
Matt Hires w/ The Wild After // Kyle Cox @ Vinyl
Singer/songwriter Matt Hires made his recording debut at the age of 22, when the Florida native introduced his confessional songcraft with the Live from the Hotel Cafe EP. Hires had begun writing music during his late teens, when his father jump-started his son’s career by giving him a 1977 acoustic guitar. Before long, he’d pieced together a band with several friends; the rock group named itself Brer and released two records before calling it quits. Hires continued onward as a solo musician and released his solo debut, Live from the Hotel Café, in October 2008. A full-length album, Take Us to the Start, followed in 2009. Two EPs, A to B and Live Sessions, followed in 2010. In 2013, Hires returned with his second full-length album, This World Won’t Last Forever, But Tonight We Can Pretend. Now, after six years on Atlantic records, Hires has released his first independent album titled Heartache Machine.

Ok Productions Presents: Bombadil with special guests, Small Houses @ Eddie’s Attic
Bombadil is a NC based band whose music is a quirky, sophisticated twist on vintage pop, indie rock and alt/country, and are managed by the same team who manage the Avett Brothers. “…an indie record done right,” “…a combination of open-minded chamber folk and the bright and sunny pop music of the 1960s,” “…sounds like the folk/rock ‘Sgt. Pepper’s,'” and “…everything an indie record should be,” are just some of the comments from writers about the band’s most recent album, Metrics of Affection.
Tickets are $14 at the door. Table seats are $12.50 and must be purchased in multiples of 4. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Online and phone sales end at 5pm.
Castle w/ Undead Viking Mafia @ The Drunken Unicorn
San Francisco heavy metal cultists CASTLE released their album, “Under Siege”, on May 20. “Under Siege” pushes CASTLE’s unique sound further with the confluence of punishing riffs and melodic passages of haunted, full-blooded madness.
Undead Viking Mafia are the last true warrior-poets of the American south, riding forth from the boiling asphalt hills of Atlanta to unleash their moonshine brand of metal on a watered-down world. Undead Viking Mafia mixes the blood of old southern tradition with the sonic crush of a new and dominating sound unheard in the metal scene until now.
Tickets are $10. Doors open at 9pm. Online and phone sales close at 4pm.
