Foals @ The Goat Farm
Their third album might not sound like Depeche Mode or Nine Inch Nails, but it has much of the same ambitious spirit and grandiose aesthetic that led to those groups touching the lives of millions. This is the sound of Foals arriving. Much like the classic Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins albums that Flood and Moulder have previously collaborated on, Holy Fire finds Foals uniting the personal with bigger themes – specifically feelings of contemporary dread. So album closer ‘Moon’ is one of the most affecting pieces the band have written, “describing the end of the world, the destruction of your body and everything disintegrating,” Yannis says. “It’s acceptance, a beautiful type of destruction, you’re in a pacific state with no resentment or sorrow.”
Pickwick @ The EARL
With a successful year of festival invites and an ever larger string of hometown sell-outs behind them in 2012 the band refocused on recording and have a year later emerged with Can’t Talk Medicine. Upgrading from the basement used for Myths and setting up shop in their living room, the band’s own multi-instrumentalist Kory Kruckenberg served as engineer. The 13 finished tracks include three re-recorded and fully realized Myths cuts and a collaboration with Sharon Van Etten on lead single “Lady Luck.” Come check out their new songs tonight!
Riverside Chamber Players @ Eddie’s Attic
Riverside Chamber Players is a non-profit organization founded in 2003. They are devoted to making the highest-quality professional chamber music performances accessible to the local community. Their goal is to provide artistic, educational, and cultural enrichment to diverse audiences.
The concerts feature an informative discussion on the music performed, including a question and answer session with the audience. This approach helps to make classical music more accessible to the entire community.
Woodsman @ 529
Over the past couple years Woodsman has been on a vision quest of sorts. Relentlessly touring and honing a sound born in basements and warehouses sprouting from amps and speakers like lichens on the forest floor. Grounded in experimentation and inspired by the films of Stan Brakhage, Woodsman create visceral tunes born from their environment. When you’re living in a city under mountains you can feel that rhythm seeping in. Satisfaction is never guaranteed only suggested and with six releases to date Woodsman leaves it up to you.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club @ The Masquerade
The sound of the band’s newest release, Beat The Devil’s Tattoo, comes from everywhere and nowhere- it draws a map and embarks on a sonic road trip through American music; from howling front porch stomps on the Chattanooga and beer-sloshing Texas roadhouse rockouts, to swaggering proto-punk sneering in NYC’s basement bars.
