Wild Party w/ The Well Reds and Sugar On The Dashboard @ The Drunken Unicorn
Wild Party, made up of vocalist Lincoln Kreifels, guitarist Lucas Hughes, bassist Ethan Kaufmann, and drummer Cary LaScala are still a young band, but they have already been around the block and across the pond. The band were thrust into the spotlight early in their career when they were offered a gig to support The Wombats on tour across the UK in 2010. Without label support, Wild Party seized the moment and took a DIY approach, releasing tracks and video content online, and gaining a fan base before inking a deal with indie/rock label Old Friends Records in November 2013. Look out for their debut album Phantom Pop, featuring new single “When I Get Older”, in October.

Simon Joyner w/ special guests @ 529
Simon Joyner is an Omaha native who first came to prominence as part of the lo-fi movement in the early ’90s alongside contemporaries such as Will Oldham, Smog, the Mountain Goats, and Dump. He is often referred to as a forefather of the Omaha indie music scene, and is a major influence on his friend, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes. Although he tours only occasionally, Joyner is a songwriter’s songwriter. Following the mercurial path of heroes like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Lou Reed, Joyner has been releasing sometimes delicate and mournful and other times dissonant, but always literate and demanding songs since the early ’90s. Joyner is now working on his thirteenth full-length album.
Tickets are $7. Doors open at 9pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm.
Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes @ The EARL
The Clairy Browne experience is like a vivid flashback to the sixties, one that transports you straight onto the set of Shindig but with a darker undercurrent, with shades of David Lynch or Federico Fellini piercing through. Her smoky voice channels aching and longing as three shimmying, bouffant haired singers in sequined dresses harmonize along with her. To the left, a baritone sax wails and shudders as the soul claps rise and fall in and out of a blaze of sound. The diva in front of her band raises her eyes to the ceiling, fist clenched tightly to her heart. The dancing ends over the roar of the crowd, they stand there entranced, sweating, and waiting: a typical dramatic moment for Clairy Browne and the Bangin’ Rackettes.
Tickets are $18. Doors open at 7pm. Online, phone, and outlet sales close at 6pm.
