What’s Up Thursday? January 23

jackson-county-line-red-light-cafe-oct-17-thumbnailTonight in Atlanta, there will be good music. That music will be played live at Eddie’s, Smith’s and 529. At the EARL, however, they’ll be switching things up and offering patrons a music fix via a documentary film screening.

Can’t decide what to do? Understandable. We suggest flipping a coin.

The Left Field Experiment: Ras G @ 529

This month’s dosage of mind-altering beats, Ras G explores space and time through his ancient and futuristic music. Dusty, ethereal and bugged out, G’s beats bring the past to the future. In the past few years, this DJ has become a pillar of LA’s avant garde community. If you’re into instrumental hip-hop, the 529’s Left Field Experiment is where it’s at!

FILMAGE: The Story of the Descendents @ The EARL

Long before Green Day and Blink 182 inflicted punk-rock’s puncture wound on the map of mainstream music, the Descendents were in a garage concocting the perfect mix of pop, angst, love and coffee. FILMAGE: The Story of DESCENDENTS/ALL follows band leader/drummer/square-peg Bill Stevenson as he pushes his rotating door of bandmates to “achieve ALL,” his philosophy of going for greatness at all costs. Stevenson is a force to be reckoned with, proving that not even a grapefruit-sized brain tumor can keep him down. Interviews with the band, along with Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Mike Watt (Minutemen), Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion) and many more reveal the story of a band (if not THE band) responsible for pop-punk as you know it.

Doors at 9pm. Tickets are $10. Online and phone sales end at 6pm.
