What’s Up Thursday?

Is it me, or is this week going by extremely slow?? Luckily for us there is plenty to do this weekend! Here some activities for you to play with tonight.

Tonight at the Tabernacle, Asking Alexandria will be rocking out getting all of the kids heads’ bopping.

– “One of THE best and most important funky bands in New Orleans. We couldn’t be prouder.” Quint Davis, producer of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. See Papa Grows Funk tonight at Smith’s Olde Bar.

-Born and raised in NJ and now residing in Atlanta; CHINUA HAWK has a story to tell. After almost ten years of touring the US and abroad and three CDs later, Chinua Hawk is not done yet. He connects with his audience on a personal level by sharing his personal struggles with them and using those struggles to inspire others. Chinua has performed with Celine Dion, written songs with Wyclef Jean and performed backing vocals on his CD “The Preachers Son.” See him tonight at Eddie’s Attic.

Dylan LeBlanc’s sophomore album Cast The Same Old Shadow will be released on August 21st by Rough Trade Records. Born in Shreveport, Dylan moved to Muscle Shoals, Alabama when he was 11 and he is the dark horse of the vibrant and close-knit musical community there that includes Alabama Shakes, Secret Sisters, and Civil Wars to name a few. Catch him tonight at the Drunken Unicorn.

-Formed in 2009 by Scotty Bryan and Abby Wren as a no-named project messing around with songs out of a basement on Greenleaf Rd in the East Atlanta Village, Abby Wren & What It Is slowly intrigued musicians around Atlanta through word of mouth, Craigslist, and a little bit of luck. What has grown organically from those late night sessions in the basement has now become a fully functional Jazz/Rock driven Funk machine! With influences ranging from Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and The Black Keys, what you get is truly fun, soulful, danceable, funky music. They’ll be hanging at The Earl tonight.
