What’s Up Thursday?

The countdown to SXSW has officially begun! Thousands of musicians will be descending upon Austin to drink, sing, and generally cause chaos upon the pretty Texas city. So while the rest of the musical world is stocking up on FunYuns, maybe you should be checking out one of these worthwhile bands before they become “famous.”

OBERHOFER. He is all the rage in NYC. Signed to the ever so popular Glassnote Records. Produced by world famous record maker Steve Lillywhite. AND he is playing Atlanta tonight at the Drunken Unicorn. Remember that little band Mumford & Sons? Yeah, they started like this too. GO SEE THIS.

-Guitar in one hand, suitcase in the other, British singer/songwriter Kevin Rowe arrived in the U.S. in 2010 in pursuit of the elusive magic that America alone has to offer: the unwavering belief that dreams can come true. Go support him tonight at Smith’s Olde Bar.

Chinua Hawk counts himself very fortunate in his career to have performed with Celine Dion in front of a crowd of 30,000 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He has also written songs with Wyclef Jean and performed backing vocals on his CD, The Preachers Son, and worked in the studio with producer/rapper Kanye West on Talib Kweli’s song, “Just To Get By.” See him tonight at Vinyl.

-Surf rockers, Mr. Gnome, will be mixing their sweet and salty sounds tonight at The Five Spot.

-From the looks of their Facebook page, NYC’s the K-Holes are out to have a good time. Their stage antics seem to be all over the place, and they are playing The Earl tonight, for what should be an entertaining hipster filled show.

-Folk singer-songwriter, Anais Mitchell, is anticipating her upcoming February release, “Young Man in America,” but it’s been quite a journey in between. Hugh Blumenfeld from Sing Out! Magazine describes her style, “Details are offered like clues or keys to the reality all of us sense is imminent and eternal beneath the surfaces of things.”  Joining her tonight at Eddie’s Attic is Athen’s son, Ken Will Morton.

Trey Songz and Big Sean will be holding court tonight at the Fox Theater..
