March is just around the corner, meaning spring is on the way! Boots and scarves have been fun, but I for one am ready for the sun to shine, and bluer skies. We can embrace the last weekend in February with some great music and an awesome festival! Here are Atlanta Music Guide’s Weekend Picks:
Friday, February 22nd-Good Old War at Vinyl
The indie folk band has been amazing crowds with their acoustic based music since its conception three years ago. Good Old War released its third full length album almost a year ago, and has been touring and working hard since. Infusing pop into their catchy tracks, Good Old War will kick off your weekend the right way.
Friday, February 22nd-Cory Branan, Jon Snodgrass, with Ben Trickey at 529
Cory Branan is a renowned singer songwriter out of Mississippi. He released his first studio album in years last May, and has been working vigorously since then. His smokey voice is one you will want to hear for yourself. Check him (and his beard) out at 529.
Friday, February 22nd-Holy Ghost Tent Revival with Megan Jean and the KFB at The EARL
Since its beginning in 2008, Holy Ghost Tent Revival has been shown crowds what honest song writing really looks like, and has continued to make earnest music. These rockers will be joined by Megan Jean and the KFB.
Friday, February 22nd-The Cheaters at Smiths Olde Bar
These guys know rock n roll. That is just a fact, and they aren’t shy about it. Bringing loud, and unapologetic rock to Atlanta is The Cheaters. They have released two albums since their start in 2006, and have played over several continents. Don’t miss their show at Smiths Olde Bar.
Saturday, February 23rd-Five Eight with James Hall at Eddie’s Attic
Athens, Georgia natives, Five Eight will be at Eddie’s Attic on Saturday. They have been making music for almost a decade now, and write songs with lyrical depth, ensuring a night of meaningful tunes. Joining Five Eight is James Hall.
Saturday, February 23rd-Corey Smith at The Tabernacle
Corey Smith has been an iconic Georgia musician for years. Hearing his songs sing about Hurricane Shoals is a wonderful southern touch that nearly anyone can relate to. I mean, I’ve driven down Hurricane Shoals. That has got to make his music a little better. He’s relatable, and a concert not to miss this weekend.
Saturday, February 23rd-Laughing Pizza at Eddie’s Attic
Looking for an event for the kids? Eddie’s Attic is your place. This is a real family band who has been making music with their daughter, and creating songs that teach, entertain, and inspire kids. Don’t forget to order some pizza while watching Laughing Pizza!
Saturday, February 23rd-Steamhouse Lounge Oyster Fest at Steamhouse Lounge
It’s here! The weekend where you can eat record amounts of oysters while listening to great music is finally upon us. You can get buckets of oysters and as much lobster bisque as you can hold. Several musicians will be there to entertain while you enjoy the endless oysters including Treedom, Neil Cribbs, and Southside of the Tracks. You can get tickets for Saturday, Sunday, or for the best deal get a 2 day ticket!
Saturday, February 23rd-Takenobu with Sealions at The EARL
The Atlanta native twists together genres like no one else can. Meshing indie, classical modern, folk, and acoustic he is one you will want to see. Joining him is Sealions at The EARL.
Saturday, February 23rd-The Bluefields at Smiths Olde Bar
Very few can claim to be Grammy nominated…The Bluefields is part of that group. The group is both rock and Americana, and the stars really seemed to align for the group to come together, making it a band meant to be.
Saturday, February 23rd-Ty Bates and Rickey Young and The Honky Tonkin’ University Tour at Peachtree Tavern
In 2011 Ty Bates was voted Georgia Country Artist of the Year. That title really does a lot of the explanation for him. He may have moved to Nashville, but he originally hails from Atlanta. His distinct voice is rich and soothing, and he will not be someone to miss on his return to Atlanta.
Saturday, February 23rd-Vinyl’s 10 Year Anniversary Party at Vinyl
Vinyl is turning 10! For 10 years, Vinyl has served as one of the best stepping stones in the city for a band to get their start. The intimate room provides the best place for band’s to give a close and personal performance. To help celebrate, they are bringing in some old names familiar with Vinyl, including The Quaildogs, Red Letter Agent, The Revels, and more.
Sunday, February 24th-DADA at Smiths Olde Bar
The progressive rock band has been playing for over a decade, and recently kicked off a tour less than a month ago. You can catch them early on in their tour at Smiths Olde Bar.
Sunday, February 24th-Pallbearer with Manray at The EARL
If you are looking for a night of metal then look no further. Pallbearer, the metal band out of Arkansas will be playing at The EARL. They are brining doom metal back to existence and freshening it up with a modern perspective.
Sunday, February 24th-Ra Ra Riot at Terminal West
Touring to promote their album Beta Love which came out earlier this year, Ra Ra Riot will be at Terminal West. This newest album is a little more synth pop since before, and the band is one you won’t want to miss.
