RUG has taken indie rock and made it for the masses. So now you can’t feel left out by all those skinny jean wearing hipsters. They have taken their brand of indie rock and made it for the radio. Head to the Vinyl for their newest spin on the genre. Just to be safe though…you may want to bring your skinny jeans for the night too!
Friday, January 18th-PlanetRAWK at Smiths Olde Bar
For an evening of something a little bit different, Smiths Olde Bar is where you need to be. PlanetRAWK is “the definition of fusion music”. They have been combining old school hip hop with electric synthesizers, with an indie streak. Don’t miss these alternative hip-hop masters.

These California natives have infused their music with their home state with a psychedelic feel that is unmistakably from the west coast. Heavy on the reverb, The Growlers will be shaking 529 this weekend. Even more, they have slated to release their newest album at the end of this month, so their show could include some surprises for fans. Joining them is The Coathangers this Friday!
Friday, January 18th-The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with Special Guests at The EARL
This alternative rock trio have over two decades of experience under their belt. They have seven studio albums and have used that time to diversify the kinds of music they play. Their laundry list of influences range from punk, blues, garage, noise rock, and hip hop. Don’t miss them at The EARL this weekend for what will surely be a well experienced show.

An alternative country singer from Canada? That’s a new one, but that is just what Fred Eaglesmith is. His songs are like short stories flowing around common themes like farming, drinking, and trains. The staples of alternative country really. Not only that he has been featured on The Late Show with David Letterman, and put out 19 albums!

Saturday, January 19th- Assemblage: A Culture Shock Event at High Museum
High Museum and a concert thrown into one? That sounds like an event worth checking out personally. The High Museum has two collections: Fast Forward: Modern Moments, and Hard Truths: The Art of Thornton Dial. With these events will also be musicians performing. This seems like two events for the price of one, so don’t miss out!

We’ve got a lot of alternative rock bands coming to the city this weekend. Stroke 9 out of San Francisco will be at Peachtree Tavern. They may have just begun as a project as students, but two decades later and they are still going strong. So they must be doing something right!

Come support fellow Atlanta native, Dog Bite. He’s known for his soothing melodies and always toting around his acoustic guitar. Recently he has added on a keyboard player, but still retained all the original integrity of his music.

Made up of all friends and of all loud music, Diarrhea Planet will be a powerful way to spend your Saturday night. The Atlanta native began rapping at a young 14. Since he was introduced to the world of hip-hop, he hasn’t stopped immersing himself in the music. Focused on creating relatable rhymes, he is someone every hip-hop fan should know.

He’s essentially a country music legend. Nelson has been touring for years, and he has also gained acclaim for being a poet and activist as well. Of course he will be rocking his iconic long locks, and maybe if you’re luck his bandana too!
