It’s March and we have to keep the coats on a bit longer. Fortunately, there are plenty of in-door shows to catch this weekend, so we can all stay warm and countdown the days to gorgeous Atlanta Spring weather! Here are AMG’s Weekend Picks:
Friday, March 1st-Grayson Capps at Eddie’s Attic
Grayson Capps’ style of rock is so raw and so innate it feels almost too personal. The southern native has released his 5th studio album. His guttural music seems to pull from the depths of his being, and his performance is one you won’t want to miss. Plus, who would want to miss seeing all that hair in person? Didn’t think so.
Friday, March 1st-Stage Affair at Vinyl
This event will features several acts including Loraine, Only In Georgia, The Sound Of Fire, 10 Steps Back, Beyond The Hero, and Cosmoscope. Loraine is a post rock group right out of Atlanta, as are many of the other bands playing, so it will be night of local color and local music. Stop by to support your Atlanta natives!
Friday, March 1st-AkuYou (LP Release Show) with White Gregg at The EARL
The quintet out of Atlanta will be playing at The EARL on Friday. Part noise, part jazz instruments with a player dedicated to playing the saxophone and noise, AkuYou will be a unique show for sure. Even better it will be their LP release show, so new music will be played for sure.
Friday, March 1st-Jungol with England in 1819 at 529
The rock electronic band is straight out of Atlanta itself, and its not its first time at 529 either. The band has been churning out original songs and amazing Atlanta crowds. The band is compromised of two brothers and their childhood friend as well as one newer addition, but with history like that, you know they have the chemistry to give more than just a good live performance. Don’t miss them at 529 this weekend.
Friday, March 1st-Pink at Philips Arena
Pink will be in Atlanta. Need I say more? She and her awesome hair will be at Philips Arena. Don’t miss her!
Friday, March 1st-Packway Handle Band at Smiths Olde Bar
Out of Athens, this alternative bluegrass band will amaze you with their instrumental skills. They have won bluegrass competitions, and have been showing their enthusiasm for their unique genre since 2001.
Friday, March 1st-The Acorns CD Release at Smiths Olde Bar
The Georgia trio has been fusing punk, folk, and rock for three years. This show will be the release show for their second album, and big things are surly in store.
Friday, March 1st-The London Souls at Eddie’s Attic
From the beginning, The London Souls have been comfortable together. From New York, the band has been playing since 2010, and even after their first performance, which was practiced only over cell phone calls, The London Souls have never felt at odds with playing together. Don’t miss what will be a memorable performance at Eddie’s Attic.
Saturday, March 2nd- Big Bird Bash, Macon, GA
Up for a short road trip? Headlining this year’s festival will be The Drive By Truckers with Drivin N Cryin, Moon Taxi, and Modern Skirts. Back City Woods, Gringo Grande, and The Dirty Sound Professors will provide local support
Saturday, March 2nd-American Aquarium at Smiths Olde Bar
American Aquarium gently weaves southern influences into a style of alternative rock and roll. Hailing from Raleigh, the band is a fresh take on bringing American roots into rock music.
Saturday, March 2nd-That 1 Guy at Variety Playhouse
Mike Silverman, otherwise known as That 1 Guy is a one man band who does it all himself. The Las Vegas based player plays with all homemade instruments. Although he is trained as a double bass player, Silverman now plays whatever he can really make. He is known in the progressive jazz world, and his performance with all his unique instruments is one you won’t want to miss.
Saturday, March 2nd-Efterklang with Nightlands at The EARL
Coming all the way from Denmark, Efterkland will perform for their US audience some of their signature indie rock tunes. Four albums after their start, Efterklang has received high praise on their most recent album, Piramida.
Saturday, March 2nd-Kurt Thomas Band at Eddie’s Attic
He’s a local Georgia musician, so come support someone who is sure to be one of the next big things in country music. Kurt Thomas has opened for Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, and more. Catch him while he is still on the rise.
Saturday, March 2nd-Asphalt Valentine at The Masquerade
Looking for someone more hardcore? Asphalt Valentine will be in Hell at The Masquerade. They are all hard rock and roll, and the five atlanta natives are ready to rock the stage on Saturday night.
Saturday, March 2nd-Mama’s Love at Peachtree Tavern
Formed in Athens, the rock band has hints of classical rock and hints of progressive. They sew in different styles of rock for a unique tone and sound all their own.
Saturday, March 2nd-Offbeat Holligans with 17 Storeys at Vinyl
Help support Offbeat Holligans and their CD release at Vinyl. The album, Be Civilized, meshes reggae, blues and funk. The band has been restlessly touring throughout bars and clubs in Atlanta, promoting their music, so go and support Atlanta’s own!
Sunday, March 3rd-Snowden with Pls Pls at The EARL
Snowden, the indie electronic band will be at The EARL. They have been noticed by Arcade Fire and have opened a show for them. Also, who could resist a band named after Catch-22? I know I can’t.
