It is finally the weekend, and you know what that means; Weekend picks from Atlanta Music Guide! As per usual, we have created a list with a variety of options to appeal to your musical taste. Hit up your favorites and enjoy a cold one!

Friday, March 8th-Chelsea Light Moving with Normal Talk at The EARL

Chelsea Light Moving is Thurston Moore’s newest band. They recently released their first self titled debut, which is a bit more pop-py than his acoustic solo album he released after the Sonic Youth hiatus announcement. Check out what you think of his newest musical endeavor.

Friday, March 8th-Cody Canada and The Departed at Peachtree Tavern

Cody Canada is Americana and rock, and the band has been together for years, meaning that the chemistry between the members is more than present. They have been working hard at creating new songs and music for fans, and the show at Peachtree Tavern is sure to have a lot of new material.

Friday, March 8th-Field Report with Hunter Callahan at Eddie’s Attic

With close relations with Bon Iver, Field Report is a show you won’t want to miss! Rolling Stone has even said the band is poised for a huge break through soon. Field Report is going to be the next big thing, so don’t miss them while they are on their rise.

Friday, March 8th-Trapt at The Masquerade

Not feeling an acoustic night? Catch Trapt in Hell (no pun intended there) for some rock music!

Friday, March 8th-Haley & Alexis at Smiths Olde Bar

Fusing modern and traditional country styles, Haley & Alexis are two gals that will impress you with their style. Listen close and you will hear hints of bluegrass, jazz, and much more, which adds huge amounts of depth at to the pairs’ sound.

Friday, March 8th-Excision at The Tabernacle

Get your glow lights and neon shirts ready, because Excision is coming to the Tabernacle. The dubstep and heavy bass music will go on throughout the night, and the bass will be enough to make your bones shake and your hair blow back.

Friday, March 8th-Mac DeMarco with Naomi Punk at 529

Mac DeMarco may have just turned 22, but that doesn’t mean he lacks the experience. He recently released his first full length album, and has been growing in leaps and bounds since his first EP. The rock and roll artist has seen his journey as a time to grow and mature, and his music is reflective of just that.

Saturday, March 9th-Alexz Johnson at Vinyl

If you recognize Alexz Johnson, it’s probably because you’ve seen her on TV as well. The young Canadian singer songwriter is not only self managed but self funded. She refuses to sacrifice the clarity and level of her music to management, and has been churning out honest songs since she began playing. Not only that, she keeps her music focused on her fans.

Saturday, March 9th-Ducktails with Alex Bleeker & the Freaks at The EARL

Ducktails’ Matt Mondanile has been bringing in some of his friends to help out with his newest endeavor which is becoming less of a solo album, and more of a collaboration. His band has been experimenting with a fusion of musical flavors and while on one track you may hear a synth opening, and backbeat, you are just as likely to hear a saxophone opening in the next.

Saturday, March 9th-Mindy Smith at Eddie’s Attic

Her wide range of Americana music has been winning over audiences for over a decade. The catchiness of her songs are undeniable because she weaves in pop music into her music as well as having matured over time.

Saturday, March 9th-Mount Moriah/Snowmine at The Drunken Unicorn

Mount Moriah was born out of the need for an outlet for honest Americana folk music with a rock twist. Their music is both minimalistic, but overpowering with its use of rock and folk music together. Don’t miss Mount Moriah at The Drunken Unicorn.

Saturday, March 9th-Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories at Variety Playhouse

Lisa Loeb was the very first person to have a number one single while not on a recording contract. That says something about the talent of a musician. Don’t miss her performance at Variety Playhouse!

Sunday, March 10th-Amena Brown at Eddie’s Attic

She used to be the host of Urban Grind’s open mic night, and Amena Brown is no stranger to being on stage, and having a mic in front of her. This means her performance at Eddie’s Attic will be anything but lacking in stage presence. She has performed backup vocals for many artists, but is now taking center stage herself.
