He’s been called everything from balladeer to punk rocker, anti-folker to indie-popper. Ben Kweller returned to his small-town roots with his 2009 album Changing Horses. It’s a collection of stories with a hymnal quality. The genre seems so natural that you think he’s finally settled down, at least for one album. Rootsy songs from his past, like “Family Tree”, “Lizzy”, “In Other Words” or “Living Life”, make Changing Horses a natural progression in this gifted songwriter’s career. His inviting vocals still guide the songs, creating the compelling intimacy fans are familiar with.

twenty one pilots with Hunter Hunted and NONONO at The Tabernacle
The duo that is twenty one pilots, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, has earned widespread applause for their energetic live sets and distinctive fusion of piano-driven schizoid pop and lyrical uplift. No strangers to the road, twenty one pilots has built a fervent national following via their electrifying live performances at innumerable headline shows and tours. The band made its Fueled By Ramen debut with a new EP titled Three Songs released Summer 2012 and was followed by a full-length album titled Vessel available now.

Tedeschi Trucks Band at The Classic Center
After many years on the road building separate, successful solo careers, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have united to form a new band with an extended pool of collaborators and friends. Well-known for their outstanding live performances, the formidable husband-and-wife duo are now exploring new ideas together through songs rooted in the blues and infused with their own unique blend of southern soul, American roots music, authentic rock ‘n’ roll, and a touch of Florida swamp magic. These ideas coalesced into an album, “Revelator,” which was released on Sony Masterworks on June 7, 2011. This eleven piece band is guaranteed to blow you away, and certainly worth the short drive to Athens!

Horse Feathers at Eddie’s Attic
The Horse Feathers’s latest album, “Cynic’s New Year” professes an ending but welcomes Horse Feathers’s fans with the promise of something new. To be sure, old friends return. Wrapped around the warmth of Justin Ringle’s vocals and sparkling guitar, fiddles dance in the spaces between, above the smoky banjo and woven through the foundation of the lower strings. The lyrics traverse familiar themes from natural disaster to the deeply personal, each through Justin Ringle’s uniquely American linguistic lens. New vistas, new stories, are explored with deep insight and fresh intimacy, always with an abiding respect and affection.

Reign Of Kindo at The Drunken Unicorn

Just about the only bio information on the internet about The Reign of Kindo is that they are self-acclaimed “makers of music”. The band stems from Buffalo, New York, is signed to Candyrat Records, and despite a whole lot of juice about the guys via the information super highway, Reign of Kindo has a fairly large and loyal fanbase. An unconventional marketing ploy perhaps? Now even we can’t help but want to check out what all the fuss is about with this group.

White Fang with Denney & The Jets at 529
White Fang is four lifelong friends (Erik Gage, Kyle Handley, Jimmy Leslie, Chris Uehlein). Formed in Portland, OR in 2005, while still in high school, first as a recording band, then as a folk band, then as a punk band, then as a noise band, then as a punk band again. There used to be a lot of people in the band, rotating on a undefined lineup, including past, present and future members of Boom! and Typhoon. The band has since then recorded four albums, played over 500 shows across the U.S., and toured nearly a dozen times.
