Every Fall, the Kennesaw State University students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, friends, and community members come together to celebrate the KSU experience and everything it has to offer. Homecoming 2014 is sure to be bigger and better than in the past, as KSU prepares for their first year of football in 2015. This year Homecoming Weekend will include a chance to catch the Owls in action at the football scrimmage beginning at 3pm on October 11th. After that, the Homecoming Concert will take place inside Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Previous homecoming concerts have been headlined by Chuck Wicks (2013), J Dash and the Ying Yang Twins (2012), and The Maine (2011). This year Wiz Khalifa and Ty Dolla $igns will take the stage starting at 8pm (gates open at 7pm).
Wiz is a five time Grammy nominated artist that lit up the hip-hop universe in 2011 highlighted by the three time platinum-certified #1 single, “Black and Yellow”. “Black and Yellow” also hit number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Wiz’s r third full-length album “Blacc Hollywood” was released on August 19th and reached number one in the first week with 90,000 records sold in the first week. The first single released from the new album “We Dem Boyz” is already a top 10 on the Billboard Charts.
His stage name is derived from Khalifa, an Arabic word meaning “successor”, and wisdom, which was shortened to Wiz when Khalifa was a young boy. He says the name came from his grandfather, who felt he would be successful in music. He cites Jimi Hendrix, Camp Lo, The Notorious B.I.G. and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony as musical influences.
The latest single from Ty’s acclaimed “Beach House EP” – “Or Nah (feat. Wiz Khalifa and DJ Mustard)” is a summer smash and is currently number 12 on the Billboard Hip Hop Charts. The single recently was name the Most Added Track at urban radio outlets nationwide and has continued to climb the top 10 iTunes “Top Hip-Hop/Rap Songs” chart.
