Rock the Vote Tour Bus Stops in Atlanta @ Georgia State University this Friday, August 31st

By Gini Strobel

Hurricane Isaac has thrown a bit of a wrench in the Republican National Convention in Tampa this week, but the RNC is moving forward today with scheduled meetings, speakers, and rallies. While I’m definitely not here to tell you how to vote, I am here to tell you that if you’re 18+ then you should vote and you should start paying attention to what our 2012 Presidential Candidates have to say! Feeling lost? Still need to register to vote in this upcoming November election? No problem! The Rock the Vote Tour Bus has kicked off its road trip in Tampa today, and this Friday, August 31st the bus will stop at Georgia State University from 12pm-4pm at Hurt Park on Gilmer Street (between Courtland and Peachtree).

Rock the Vote has become the largest non-partisan registration organization in the country, registering over 2.2 million individuals to vote in 2008 alone. They’re not here to shove some Republican/Democrat mumbo-jumbo down your throat! Rock the Vote’s mission is to “engage and build political power for young people in our country”. According to Rock the Vote research, in 2008, 18-24 year-old voters averaged a low 41% turn out rate at the polls! There’s a lot of issues on the table this year that are going to affect us for years to come. Don’t you want a say in your future?

The Road Trip 2012 tour bus will be fully equipped with laptop kiosks to enable voter registration and educate users about the election process. The kiosks will provide information about voter ID requirements, polling locations, and much more. Each tour stop will feature exciting talent, speakers, and celebrity hosts—including Jack Johnson, Motion City Soundtrack, Tabi Bonney and Asher Roth just to name a few. On site at each stop, the Road Trip 2012 will leverage popular culture – from new technologies to gaming, music, and film – to reach and engage potential new voters.

So, grab your friends, head over to Gilmer Street in Downtown Atlanta this Friday, and register to vote! All ages are welcome (18+ to register)! Let’s change these young voter statistics this year!
