Best Brothers Band released their second self titled EP on December 17, 2011 resulting in the boy’s first radio play on Atlanta’s own 99x with numerous plays. After years of juggling demanding day jobs, BBB decided to make 2012 their year with their fathers wisdom always ringing in their ears “pick one thing and do it well, whatever it is”. With over 75 originals crafted, BBB is currently hitting rooms hard around Georgia and the Southeast bringing their unique style combining rock, pop, country, and newgrass which can only be explained by seeing a live set and watching the ebbs and flows of the sound and resulting crowd reaction. The boys will bring a tear to your eyes with such introspective hits as “Give Me Love” and “Lovely Lady” off their recent release followed by whiskey shots shootin’ as they rock crowd favorite “Orangutan”. We caught up with John Best from the band before their show with Stroke 9 this Saturday!
What is the strangest thing a fan has done for you? or at your show?
Maybe the 3 Asians at the front of the stage at that Vinyl show screaming at us in Chinese?? Or maybe when that anonymous pair of under garments were sitting in the green room with our names and BBB all over them after that show at Smiths Olde Bar along with a key to a hotel room in ATL…
What is the funniest moment you have had as an artist/band so far?
I think shooting the deer before our very first show which happened to be in Athens. We spent several hours tracking the deer, finally found it, but then ended up having to drive like Kitt from Knight Rider up to the show and were pretty late. OR, when our mom, wearing a pink polka dot shirt came on stage, fell, and knocked over a $2k amp at the end of one of the songs we wrote/dedicated to her (JellyBean)!
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
We always chug a beer (natty lite) and then right before we go on we get together and say a prayer of thanks.
If you could describe your music in one word, what would it be?
stimulating / captivating OR……. MOTHERFUCKINGAWESOME
How do you connect with a crowd?
I think Just being ourselves and always being the last ones to leave the venue no matter where or what time it is. We love hearing folks thoughts after we put on a show.
How did you come up with your band name?
Pretty easy, we are brothers and Jonas Brothers was already taken.
What is the best way to write music?
With a natty lite, and a peaceful, relaxing environment, right after something crazy or special has happened in one of our lives. Nature, water and woods always bring good vibes… stress and uncertianty have backed several songs as well. There is a good split between writing early in the morning with an acoustic guitar out on our back deck which is usually just one or two people, and then there’s the complete other side which is after a few beers with the full band late night coming up with some of our jammier songs.
