Atlanta natives who make up The Quaildogs took some time to talk with us at AMG. The folk-pop band brings a slight country edge, courtesy of their southern roots. And really, who wouldn’t want to see someone playing the electric mandolin? Check out what they had to say before their show at Smiths Olde Bar on Friday!
What is the strangest thing a fan has done for you? or at your show?
We played a show at the Masquerade once, and during an encore we had this hammered guy who looked just like Jesus jump on stage. He proceeded to sing “Honkey Tonk Woman” with us. He didn’t speak any English really, but apparently loved the Rolling Stones.
What is the funniest moment you have had as an artist/band so far?
The fine people over at the Center Stage Music Complex left us a signed head-shot from Bob Sagat in the dressing room that said ‘To the Quaildogs – Have a great show, Bob Sagat’ (image below).

If you could describe your music in one word, what would it be?
Peachy
How do you connect with a crowd?
SMS. Seriously though, we try to get the crowd moving. If they’re sweating by the end, we’ve done a good job.
How did you come up with your band name?
A few of us went to college in New Orleans. We had a girlfriend who’s last name was Qualey. She was/is a party legend. In a city like New Orleans which is full of party legends, she ranks up there among the best. Her nickname is Quaildog. We honor her with our title, The Quaildogs.
What is the best way to write music?
Keep your ears open. You never know when you’ll hear something that might influence your writing. When you least expect it a great lyric might pop in to your head. Or, in traffic.
