Somewhere in musical history, Seattle become synonymous with rain and new music. From giving the world Jimi Hendrix, to the birthplace of grunge, the rainy state has taken a stance in spearheading new music.
Or maybe its all that rain inspring artists left and right.
Pickwick is part of the musical history of Seattle–or on its way at least.
The Seattle based band take on the grittiness and nostalgia of a black and white photo, that’s really the only way to describe how they sound. If an old film photo could sing, it would sound like Pickwick. There is a raw, not quite grunge, but guttural aspect to Pickwick’s style. The tone of their songs has a distorted, lo-fi, almost analog quality to it.
With a smidgen of Black Keys sound with the fullness of a larger band, Pickwick is well on its way to being one of the more distinguished Seattle bands, and after their debut album Can’t Talk Medicine, it seems even more set in stone.
Can’t Talk Medicine was chosen as the album of the month in March by Seattle Met, and they have taken their bluesy rock n roll to a different place. At its inception, the band came together as another indie band in Seattle, but with this newest release, they have grown into what their sound is. Honestly, it’s stunning.
