Pretty Lights To Host A Seminar For Members Of The Recording Academy On 4/24!

IMG_5810 - Mixing deskSave the date – Grammy Nominated Artist Pretty Lights is coming to Atlanta on Thursday, April 24! Derek Vincent Smith (Pretty Lights) will host an exclusive seminar for Atlanta Chapter members of The Recording Academy and give an insider’s look into how he created the songs on A Color Map of the Sun, which is currently nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance/Electronica Album category.

What makes this artist/producer so special? Why does Rick Rubin refer to him as “The face and voice of the new American electronic music scene”? It has everything to do with his uncompromising and unique recording process that is often better shown than explained. Take 90 seconds and check out The Making Of Documentary trailer here.

“Like Daft Punk, Pretty Lights’ Derek Vincent Smith delves into analog electronica – but in a different way. Having created sampling sources by recording breaks with live musicians, he chops and reassembles them in ways that recall acid jazz, blues, and vintage soul.” – USA Today

Pretty Lights is a completely independent artist who answers to no higher authority than his own musical muse. All of his music is released on his own label and you can find his CD’s and vinyl in local record shops such as Criminal Records, where he recently did an in-store signing. At the same time, he also gives all of his music away for free through his website.
