Their was no doubt that Slash and Foxy Shazam were in Atlanta last night. As I stood outside the Tabernacle, several people walked by and were immediately intrigued by the sounds of Foxy Shazam and SLASH. These folks quickly purchased a ticket and jumped into the action packed night!
Foxy Shazam is their name and I’m not really sure where to begin with this one. The lights went down as one of my favorite fellow photographers yelled across the photo pit “Catrina, watch the keyboardist and the lead singer! They are the ones to watch!” Next thing I know the keyboardist was smiling like a crazed musician picking this huge keyboard up and down and all around while playing his heart out.
Then I shifted my camera lens over to the lead singer, Eric Sean Nally and he was in a full on head stand, yes I said head stand! Nally reminded me of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. After a few minutes of head standing, Nally then began doing front flips back and forth across the stage. The action never stopped from extreme head banging to crawling across the stage to horns being thrown in the air. The most interesting part of the show for me was when the lead singer asked if anyone in the crowd had a smoke? Cigarettes and lighters began to be thrown onto the stage from all over the music hall. Nally took about eight cigarettes and lit them all at once, and he smoked on them for a bit, while he talked to the crowd. What he did next I would not have believed if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. He ate the wad of cigarettes and began gyrating as if he was having some kind of a seizure on stage. This band pulls out all the crazy stops in every performance. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it! You won’t want to take your eyes off the stage.
Next up on the bill was SLASH, the band was created by former guitar player Slash from the well-known Guns’ and Roses. Slash came out and as always he rocked the crowd with his amazing guitar riffs and rock star presence. Miles Kennedy was a great fit for Slash in my opinion. Throughout the entire show Miles would look out into the crowd and smile, and you could tell that he was enjoying his frontman position. Bassist, Todd Kerns even stepped up to the mic and belted out a tune. They played some songs from their latest album Apocalyptic Love, but they didn’t leave off the old G n’R hits like Night Train and Civil War. It was defintely a great night at the Tab for rock and roll.
You forgot about the part where Eric Sean Nally repeatedly punches himself in the face with the microphone and jumps on the lead guitarist’s shoulders and dry-humps the back of his head. 🙂 F…ing CRAZY show !!!! They will be in Columbus, GA in October and I will be there.
