I must say that as someone who works for an event ticketing company, it was really cool to see the ticket sales for The 1975 and The Neighbourhood show skyrocket. What was originally thought to be a smaller show taking place at Vinyl, quickly grew to a sold out show at the much larger venue Center Stage. Needless to say, all of us at Ticket Alternative and Atlanta Music Guide were thrilled for both bands.
It was very apparent that Atlanta fans were just as excited for the guys. The first three rows in the pit were packed with older teens and college-age girls screaming with excitement. English rockers, The 1975, brought a theatrical and enticing performance. The moody lighting, dark grunge attire and lead singer, Matthew Healy’s smooth vocals, caused frenzy within the crowd. The energy from the band and the excitement from the audience created an electric atmosphere where everyone with dancing and singing along. If the girls weren’t already swooning, The 1975’s final songs, “Chocolate” and “Sex” made just about every lady’s heart melt.
After anxiously waiting for 30 minutes or so, the California band, The Neighbourhood, casually and calmly took the stage. Their 90s-like grunge attire and dim lighting created a melodramatic atmosphere. Lead vocalist, Jesse Rutherford, serenaded the crowd with his lustful voice while tantalizing the girls in the front row with his smooth hip thrusts and body rolls. The band moved around the stage and really gave an alluring performance. Crowd favorites included their songs, “Female Robbery” and “Afraid”, not to mention their take on Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name”. Throughout the set, the crowd was singing along, swaying and dancing to each song. The energy in the theater was absolutely incredible when the band sang “Sweater Weather” as their second to last song. Before they called it a night, The Neighbourhood brought out The 1975 again and the bands came together to take a picture in front of the screaming crowd. What a cool moment.
For those of you who missed The Neighbourhood this time around, the guys will be back in September for Atlanta’s Music Midtown! You won’t want to miss them live!
