Dont believe everything you read! According to The Rising's official website on Maverick.com, former Film lead singer Mike Lee says about the song 'So Alive', 'is a moving confession about the struggle to maintain faith in the face of adversity that is nothing short of inspirational'. Too bad the song was written by Film 2 years before he joined the band and is actually called 'Q'! The first single from the full-length Future Unknown is called "Cradle".

The Hiss will debut their first video for the UK single Clever Kicks at a special screening at the Eastside Lounge in East Atlanta at midnight on July 21st. The video was directed by Charles Mehling who's work also includes videos for BRMC, The Music and Haven. There will be single giveaways and someone will win a copy of the video.

The Hiss have released their first US single Riverbed. The 3 song single also includes Clever Kicks (from the forthcoming CD Panic Movement) and a b-side (not on the full length) City People. The single is in all good record stores from Monday June 23rd.

Jeff Beck will play two consecutive nights at Chastain – September 5th and 6th - at the tail end of a U.S. tour. A new album, Jeff (Epic) goes on sale on July 22nd and is produced by Andy Wright, who has worked in the past with Massive Attack. Other collaborators are Apollo 440 and Mike Barbiero.

Word has it that Chris Lee is a singer worth paying attention to. We here at The Guide have yet to hear his Cool Rock album, but have it on good authority that it's cool and that it, um, rocks. Perhaps we should all mosey down to the Earl on July 10th and see what the deal is.

Rounder Records has announced upcoming releases by Joe Ely, Anson Funderburgh, Blue Rodeo, and a live Alison Krauss DVD. These people couldn't put out a bad record if they tried.

Reel Big Fish, whose new album is called CheerUp! (Jive), will play at the Roxy on July 16th (www.reelbigfish.com) along with their new drummer, Justin Ferreria. Opening for them will be Gob.

Radiohead hits the World Wide Web with radiohead.tv featuring webcasts of concerts, studio footage and other odds and ends.

Corporate Ubiquity Part 17,359: Aquafina On The Bricks is now the official name of the downtown Atlanta Friday fest. Uncle Kracker has been announced as the headliner for June 27th and Franky Perez will be promoting his debut Poor Man's Soul (Lava) on August 1st. And don't forget Liz Phair on August 8th.

If you're hard of hearing, you won't mind attending the Asphalt Blaster show at the 40 Watt Club in Athens on June 20th.

Authority Zero has just put out their major label debut A Passage In Time (Lava) and will play this year's Vans Warped Tour, coming to the Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater on July 23rd. Merry California punk lads Yellowcard are also on the bill, playing the heck out of their Capitol Records debut, Ocean Avenue.

Also on the 23rd, Gord Downie & The Country of Miracles (www.wienerart.net) will take over Smith's Olde Bar in support of Battle Of The Nudes (Zoe). Downie is the former lead singer of the Tragically Hip.

Hotwire will play at the Masquerade on June 25th (with Death By Stereo) in support their debut album titled The Routine (RCA).

"Chicago's Best Street Musician" Stolie (www.stolie.com) is taking time out from her day job as a publicist for Bloodshot Records to show us her talents in a live setting, no less. Accompanying her will be Dave Tamkin & Joe Chellman, and they will play Eddie's Attic on June 30th. She has a new album scheduled for the fall.

The Streets has cancelled his performance at 99X's Big Rock on Friday, due the canceling of the 2 Day Field Day Festival. The Field Day Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Calverton, will now only take place on Saturday June 7th at Giants Stadium.

An interesting cross-section of local talent will be on hand at the downtown Westin Hotel this Thursday, June 5th, for the 2nd Annual Heroes Awards, presented by the local chapter of the Recording Academy. Scheduled to attend are James Brown, Jermaine Dupree, Brian Littrell, Duane Eddy, Bo Diddley, Shawn Mullins and the surviving members of TLC.

The new EELS album, titled Shootenanny, is now out on Dreamworks Records. It's just as weird and wonderful as you would expect.

From the same label comes the luscious Dana Glover, who is embarking on her first club tour in support of the debut album Testimony. She will play at Smith's Olde Bar on July 2nd. It would be simply foolish to miss this.

Also at Smith's, soulful Louisiana troubadour Marc Broussard plays for three consecutive Saturdays in July, on the 8th, 15th and 22nd. But first, he'll sneak one in at Eddie's Attic this Friday, June 6th. He is plugging the self-released album Momentary Setback.

The new Bruce Cockburn CD arrives on June 10th from Rounder Records. It's called You've Never Seen Anything and it's his first release since 1999. Cockburn has the right sort of friends - Sarah Harmer, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris and Sam Phillips all took part in the recording.

Beehive & The Barracudas new album is In Dark Love (Swami) - available July 1st - and they will grace us with their presence on June 8th at El Matador.

Premium Quality Tunes is the immodest title of Sugarland's debut, but their confidence is understandable considering the line-up - Kristen Hall, Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. They bring their egos and backing musicians to Variety Playhouse on Saturday, May 31st.

Also on the 31st, Slowearth will promote the just-released Edge at the 10 High, "giving Primal Scream and Death In Vegas a run for their money" according to the band's manager.

Verbena, from Birmingham, have released their third album, La Musica Negra, through Capitol Records, and will play at the Echo Lounge on Friday, June 13th.

Her press release describes Gillian Welch as "the Grammy-winning Americana gem" and who are we to argue? Welch is on the road supporting Soul Journey, her fourth release, and plays Chastain Amphitheatre on Saturday, June 14th (opening for the inescapable Norah Jones).

A much anticipated new recording from Ed Harcourt is coming from Astralwerks, called From Every Sphere, and he's playing club dates around the country starting in June, with an Atlanta date set for the 23rd at Smith's Olde Bar. Sondre Lerche is opening for him. The album is the follow-up to the Mercury Music Prize - nominated Here Be Monsters

The Hiss have completed their debut for LOOG/ Polydor records UK and are embarking on a short East Coast tour. There is a listening party for the new record (titled 'Panic Movement') at The Village in East Atlanta on Thursday May 29th, and the band play The Earl on Friday.

The Faint had a bass guitar stolen from their van while in town for a show. It is a 1978 black Gibson grabber s/n 71188051. If anyone ever sees this in pawn shop or music store or has any info, please contact the band at [email protected]. You can see a picture of the bass here.

99x has announced that its summer series of free shows will take place on Fridays from May 30th - July 25th at Stone Mountain Music Park. This years line up includes The White Stripes, The Hiss, The Streets, The Donnas, The Three Doors Down and The Our Lady Peace. The land they used to occupy downtown is currently being redeveloped for the new Aquarium.
