Update !!
We ran a story here last week after hearing about a band not being treated very well, by the venue's new booking agent, at a show they played in East Atlanta. We asked the club to comment and when we finally heard back this week they denied any wrong doing, or that there was any altercation. We certainly hope this is so, as no band deserves to pull a crowd and have a problem getting paid at the end of the night. It seems that many club owners/booking agents lately do very little to promote nights when local bands play.
For example, even though the Midtown Music Festival sells out, you still hear advertising for the event on every radio station and see a large amount of print ads. Tthe organisers don't just rely on the lineup to bring a crowd. Perhaps if venues worked a little harder for the money they earn, local bands would stand a better chance of drawing a crowd. Unsigned bands work with tiny budgets to promote a show, that as an opening act they may only get paid $100 for. We've seen local bands open for larger acts who draw 200 plus people, charging $15+ per ticket, and only get paid $100 !!
If a local band draws 200 people to a show on their own, at $7 a head, they deserve to see more than 1/2 of that money, maybe it's time bands stood up for themselves more, and the club owners started to work a little harder. (in our opinion)
