Local Spotlight: O’Brother

O'Brother

Comfort zones are overrated—just ask the five members of the Atlanta-based post-rock outfit O’Brother. In 2013, the band decided to leave their hometown to rent a house on Long Island where they would reconvene with producer Mike Sapone (known for his work with Brand New, Crime in Stereo, Public Enemy and more) to embark on a mind-expanding journey into strange new territory lyrically and sonically.

In 2008, two years after the release of their 2006 debut EP, In Comparison to Me, Aaron Wamack and Tanner Merritt joined the band and rounded out the group. Their second EP, The Death of Day, released in May of 2009 to positive reviews and landed the band a tour with Manchester Orchestra and The Features in February March of 2010. After that, O’Brother joined Thrice’s Major/Minor tour in September November 2011 alongside Moving Mountains and La Dispute.

Finally, in November of 2011, O’Brother released their first full LP, called Garden Window, which was well-received by critics. It was released on Triple Crown Records and co-produced by Andy Hull and Robert McDowell of Manchester Orchestra. That same month, the band recorded a Daytrotter session and then went on to co-headline a tour with post-rock band Junius in 2012. Aaron Wamack left the band prior to the tour’s start.

O’Brother’s last album, Disillusion, released almost a year ago now on Triple Crown Records and since then, they’ve been touring and playing shows all around the world. Fresh off a European tour with La Dispute and Eugene Quell in June and currently wrapping up a co-headlining stint with fellow Atlanta band Royal Thunder, O’Brother announced on Monday that they’ll be opening for a few of Minus the Bear’s upcoming tour dates.
