It’s been just over a year since Mood Rings released their debut album, VPI Harmony, and honestly, we’re still tappin’ our toes to sounds of lush post-punk balladry and moody guitar. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed this album after a long week, after a short week, while driving around town with the windows down, and all sorts of places in between.
VPI Harmony, released on Mexican Summer Records, seemed to be a natural next step for Mood Rings after their 2011 debut EP Sweater Weather Forever, which was characterized as a more loose, lo-fi record. We’ve certainly seen (and heard) this band grow up in their musical forays and we’re pretty excited to see what else they have in store. Lucky for us, word on the street is that the band is working on some new material for a brand new album! Our fingers are crossed that they’ll play us some sweet new tunes at their upcoming show at the Earl.
Recently featured on our list of 5 Atlanta Bands You Need to Know, Mood Rings has certainly made quite a splash in the Atlanta music scene and beyond. We look forward to collecting many more of their albums and seeing them at many more shows.
Mood Rings play The EARL on Wednesday, July 23rd alongside DIIV and fellow local band Warehouse, so be sure to come out and support them. We’ll be there, wave if you see us!
