The Cotton Club
Swedish rock band The Sounds played the Cotton Club on Monday, opening for Rooney, and was without a doubt a crowd pleaser. With their energetic, new wave sound, they spun the crowd into a dancing frenzy. Singer Maja Ivarsson grabbed hold of the people with her spunky attitude and even made me want to be in a band.
Firing up tunes off their new album, Living In America (New Line Records), The Sounds drew unapologetic debts to Blondie and Missing Persons with songs such as 'Rock n' Roll,' 'Dance With Me,' and their single 'Living In America.' It's about time we see people break loose and enjoy themselves, even if they have no rhythm. It's a new crowd of scenesters that has been popping up at shows all year long, and they're sporting a refreshing new attitude that has changed the local live show experience - at least for me. People are dancing again, and The Sounds are there to help it along. by Sara Minton
