Your average Tuesday night in Atlanta pretty much guarantees a decent show at one of our local venues. Last night, I headed to the The Drunken Unicorn to check out On An On and Savoir Adore. With only a little blog chatter to go by and a few listens, I was interested to see what these bands were like live.
Brooklyn band, Savoir Adore entered the Drunken Unicorn dressed in all white, an interesting choice and certainly noticeable. They had our attention and it wasn’t because of their outfits. Their voices were smooth and their music was fun. With a hint of 80’s electronic, the group comprised of Deidre Muro, Paul Hammer, Tim McCoy, Gary Atturio, and Alex Foote title their sound “fantasy rock”. Lead singers, Paul Hammer and Deidre Muro, have a chemistry and sound that complement each other, both light and fresh. “Dreamers” and “Bodies” are easily crowd favorites and definitely worthy of a listen! The band has that male/female duo sound that we love from bands like the The Postal Service and the xx, but they give it more of a rock twist. The whole band added semi-choreographed arm movements to romantic song, “Loveliest Creature” and then closed their set with Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U”. The band will re-release album, Our Nature, with Nettwerk Records on June 4th.
Though, On an On’s set was a bit delayed, the crowd filled in and waited patiently for the band to take the stage. On An On, an indie-pop trio from Chicago/Minneapolis released their album Give In in late January. The trio were former members of an indie band called Scattered Trees, but took off on their own to form a more collaborative project, which can easily be seen as the members all sing and sing well together. Their music has hints of a Coldplay-like sound, its rock and pop, driven with a creative fresh inspiration. Songs to check out are “Ghosts”, “The Hunter”, and “American Dream”. Wanna know more?
