The Meanwhiles are a three-piece band made of singer/songwriter, Erin Rae, drummer and multi-instrumentalist, Graham Bechler, and Cori Lecain on harmonies. They are based in Nashville, TN, and are dear friends who love making music together.
We spoke with Erin Rae from the Meanwhiles before she hits the Eddie’s Attic stage for her solo performance on June 2!
What’s the first gig you ever attended?
I grew up with my parents playing music in Jackson, TN, So I’m almost positive it was a festival in the summer time that he played when I was two. There is a picture of me with a mullet drinking a 7UP, and I think that is where it was taken.
What is the best gig that you ever performed?
I’ve had some really great experiences playing shows at both The High Watt and The Basement in Nashville. Those bills are often shared with really good friends so it creates this amazing love-fest/ mutual admiration and respect vibe that is just so inspiring to me.
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
Oh that’s a toughie. I saw The Dave Rawlings Machine at Exit/In a couple years ago, which was such an amazing performance. I just fell in love with both him and Gillian all over again, both such true musicians and performers. Robert Plant was also there, and my best friend Ian gave him a fist-pump.
What gig you would you like to play most?
I want to play Ryman Auditorium before I die.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
Gillian and Dave, Patty Griffin, Feist, George Harrison, Vetiver.. I cant choose.. There are so many more. Maybe a dream festival line-up could fit ’em all.
Erin Rae will be doing a solo performance along side Molly Parden and Jonathan Rich at Eddies Attic Sunday, June 2nd. Get your tickets here.
