RAC stand for Remix Artist Collective. They’ve built a fanbase on a whole lot of remixes (200+) for all kinds of artists. A few years ago Karl and Andre started DJ’ing all across the globe. Recently, Andre wrote a song with Penguin Prison and put it out through Green Label Sound. That song is the first single of a forthcoming album of original material coming early 2013. Both RAC and Penguin Prison will be DJ’ing at The Basement in Atlanta Saturday, June 15th along with Cousin Dan!
We caught up with RAC and Penguin Prison to ask them some questions before the big night! Check out what they had to say!
What’s the first gig you ever attended?
Penguin Prison: The first concert I went to was Whitney Houston at the Meadowlands Arena in 1990 I believe. I am not sure how this happened but I remember having a shirt from the concert for a while.
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
RAC: It’s pretty hard to pick one, but a couple stick out to me: in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge, Mendoza, Argentina, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. We played in Beirut and it was a good show, but the setting really made it special. It was an old outdoors club from the 60’s directly on the water.
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
Penguin Prison: I have been to many good shows – probably one of the best was Prince at Madison Square Garden in 2004. He played in the round and he was currently on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine and at one point the lights went down and came up on him reading the magazine on a couch.
Gig you would most like to play?
RAC: I love traveling, so anything that can get me to an interesting and foreign place. As long as I get a couple days off in between to really soak up the culture.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
Penguin Prison: I would just like to play a show where everyone I know is there and everyone is having a wonderful time.
