Local musician, Micah Dalton spans multiple genres with his self-described “alt. soul” music. Thanks to his skillful guitar playing and soulful vocals the juxtaposition of folk, blues, and soul achieves an ear-pleasing result. Micah Dalton’s latest release, a live album entitled Live At Eddie’s Attic, brilliantly displays his excitement for music and his skillfulness as a performer. Beyond his latest live release, Micah has also received recognition for his previous studio album entitled Blue Frontier, which was released in March 2012. Though he has recently relocated to New York City, Micah’s performances are an unmistakable testament to his southern roots.
We were lucky enough to catch up with Micah before his Atlanta show on the 22nd at Eddie’s Attic to discuss his pre-show rituals, crazy fan stories and more!
What is the strangest thing a fan has done for you or at your show?
Singing for a surprise birthday party while the guy next to me was playing World of Warcraft on his computer.
What is the funniest moment you have had as an artist?
Having two people with the same name from the same city in your phone and calling the one you’ve only met once to retrieve you from the airport. Then said person actually coming to get you only for you to hear you ask “Hey man, remind me-how’d we meet?”
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Don’t eat cheese.
If you could describe your music in one word what would it be?
Palatable
How do you connect with a crowd?
Sing really well and let vulnerability win over pretense.
How did you decide on your band name?
It was given to me by my parents.
What is the best way to write music?
Honesty. And an instrument other than your voice. And all the time. Document all the moments. Get good at failing.
