Interview: Frankmusik; Playing @ Eddie’s Attic June 3rd!

frankmusik_1Frankmusik (AKA Vincent James Turner) first zoomed into public view in 2007 when the self taught piano prodigy began to release the songs he had written, produced and sung on MySpace. His distinctive, dizzying cocktail of helter skelter beats, soaring pop melodies and ecstatic electronica quickly won him a devoted army of online fans. In 2009, the Brit invaded the US for his first big tour. His adventures in the states inspired the restless Frankmusik in his next bold move – in 2010 he relocated to LA, determined to learn from the hottest pop talents of the day who were at work there.

Combining the more accomplished production techniques and confident vocals learnt in LA with the hyperactive fizz of his earliest songs, the “Far From Over” EP – released on Valentine’s Day 2013 – was greeted ecstatically by fans and journalists alike. The EP once again showcased Frankmusik’s versatility, shifting from the breathlessly paced electropop of “Captain” to the epic piano ballad “The Line”. But it was lead single “Map” which grabbed most attention.

We caught up with Frankmusik before his tour hits Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta. Check out what he had to say!

What is the strangest thing a fan has done for you or at your show?

A gentleman brought me my own vinyl of a song called “In Step” framed and signed by him to say thank you for making it. I liked it but it was strange.

What is the funniest moment you have had as an artist?

Bumping into a big act a few years ago and having no idea who they were and asking them to hold a coffee for me in an elevator of a hotel we were both staying in.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Star jumps, one menthol cigarette and a shot of Hennessy.

If you could describe your music in one word, what would it be?

Fizzy.

How do you connect with a crowd?

Sing my ass off and make the audience know that I am there for them. I want to convey the passion I had in making the music to come across to them in a live environment.

How did you decide on your band name?

My grand father was called Frank. When he passed away I decided to name my band after him in his memory.

What is the best way to write music?

Write something that genuinely moves you. If it means nothing to the person writing it then I feel it shouldn’t exist. Passion is power in my mind.
