It’s been said the newest members of Atlanta’s booming music scene have a sound that’s a clear “amalgamation of blues, neo-soul, and rock-and-roll”. Giving Pink Floyd and Maxwel a run for their money, All The Locals are no strangers to the industry. Atlanta-based producer, John Briglevich (who worked with the band on their newest set of rhythmically seductive songs), says, “…[their music is] hard to describe and that’s why I dig it. I’m scrambling to try and make this [EP] sound as good as they do live.”
Praised for their effortlessly original and creative approach to songwriting, A.T.L’s self-titled debut EP dropped October 29. “We all know good music when we hear it. [Our music] feels good”, Deno, A.T.L’s drummer extraordinaire, has commented. Well, Deno, the public agrees.
We caught up with the band before they hit Smith’s Olde Bar November 1st to celebrate their EP release! Check out what they had to say!
What’s the first paid gig you ever played?
Johnny: Will Henry’s Tavern in Lilburn, Georgia. I was ten years old and my mother wouldn’t come because there were “women of the night” outside the establishment.
Deno: 12 years old at a church gospel gig.
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
Ty: The first show that we ever sold out as All The Locals was The Nick in Birmingham less than a year into being a group.
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
Johnny: Paul McCartney at Piedmont Park.
Gig you would most like to play?
ATL: Music Midtown, because we would feel like we were finally representing the city.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
ATL: It would have to be a festival because the genres would be too mixed up.
What is the strangest thing a fan has done for you at your show?
ATL: We played a Valentine’s show at Clermont Lounge this year and the fans were paying for the strippers to do “dirty” acts to us while we were playing different songs (i.e. sweating on Johnny with lit matches in the nipples, and spreading their butt cheeks on Ty’s guitar during a solo).
If you could describe your music in one word, what would it be?
ATL: Soulternative.
How do you connect with a crowd?
ATL: We like the crowd to sing along and dance just as much as we do. It usually ends up with us sweating a lot and people losing their voices. A show is an all around experience, not a listening session. They’ve already paid for that on iTunes or Spotify.
How did you come up with your band name?
ATL: We love traveling, new faces and places. Everybody always wants to go where all the locals go, touristy gets boring. Also, the acronym for Atlanta is ATL. So two meanings I suppose.
Party with All The Locals this Friday, November 1, at Smith’s Olde Bar! See you there!
