When the weather gets colder we all run out of things to do. You can only go to so many movies, restaurants, malls, and bars (well maybe not bars). However, I have a solution to end the cabin fever! The High Museum of Art is hosting a a very cool event on Saturday, January 19th called Assemblage: A Culture Shock Event. It’s the perfect blend of art and music. You’re invited to experience two incredible exhibitions, Fast Forward: Modern Moments 1913>>2013 and Hard Truths: The Art of Thornton Dial, with musical guests performing in the most unlikely spaces. How often do you get a ticket to the High and a Concert all in one?? Count us in.
Fast Forward: Modern Moments 1913>>2013 features art from 6 specific years: 1913, 1929, 1950, 1961, 1988, and 2013. See how these individual works influence the future and yet take a new direction.
Hard Truths: The Art of Thornton Dial is a collection of contemporary pieces that are haunting and beautiful. From plastic soda bottles to cow skeletons, anything and everything has a place in Thorton’s art. The colors are outstanding and engaging. Your eyes could spend hours exploring the depth of these pieces.
As for the music, Culture Shock is featuring some awesome artists and bands including Lonnie Holley and Cole Alexander, Faye Webster, Rex Hussmann, Anna & Elizabeth, Phillip Roebuck, and Cicada Rhythm.
