After dealing with Snowpocalypse 2.0 aka “Atlantartica”, it was nice to see die hard Flogging Molly fans come out for the final go round of the Green 17 tour on Saturday night at the Tabernacle. Florida-based punk band, The Attack was first on stage, followed by The Drowning Men, who are longtime touring buddies of Flogging Molly. Both bands warmed up the crowd with punk tunes and the haunting sounds of a Theremin.
Singer, Dave King, started the night out by giving a Guinness toast and announced that since this was the last Green 17 tour, they would be playing songs that they haven’t played in years. Flogging Molly was very happy to start out the tour in Atlanta but had a bad feeling it was going to be all downhill from here. King even asked if the ATL crowd could come on tour with them for the next thirteen weeks.
The band played all their classic hits like “Drunken Lullabies”, “Paddy’s Lament”, and “Devil’s Dance Floor” as well as “Rise Up” which had never been played live. If you’ve never been to a Flogging Molly concert before, you are totally missing out. This band loves what they do and are loyal to their fans. King announced that yes this would be their last Green 17 tour but they will never stop playing. After this tour, the band will be back in the studio to work on their next album which should be released in 2015.
