Country Music Legend Charlie Louvin Live at Star Bar, April 24

Waylon Jennings once said “Country music isn’t a guitar, it isn’t a banjo, it isn’t a melody,  it isn’t a lyric – it’s a feeling.” There is no better proof of that then the music of Charlie Louvin.

Charlie Louvin started singing with his brother Ira in the church choir, so naturally they started out their musical careers as gospel singers. The Louvin Brothers found success in the music business, but were advised “gospel music doesn’t sell tobacco,” so they became country singers.

After the brothers split up Charlie continued to perform as a solo artist making numerous appearances on the Grand Ole Opry and in later years acting as an elder statesman for country music.

Louvin’s 2008 release Charlie Louvin Sings Murder Ballads and Disaster Songs was extremely well received and helped introduce his music to a new generation.
