AMG’s Weekend Picks: Cyndi Lauper, President Clinton, Here We Go Magic and More!

We hope everyone is making it through this baking-hot week. Speaking of the temperature, this fall’s upcoming show schedule is really “heating up” (oh dear…), as evidenced by our list of fabulous on-sales at the bottom of this post. Sounds like it’s going to be a rock ‘n’ roll autumn.

Thursday, August 5 – Sugarland at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park

Though they’ve been making headlines by planning more time in the courtroom than in the studio lately, Atlanta’s own country super-duo Sugarland is still taking time out to “pack the stadiums,” as they originally planned back with that first album. Well, amphitheaters anyway.

Friday, August 6 – Cyndi Lauper at Chastain Park Amphitheatre

How much do we adore the style and music of Cyndi Lauper? One of the original pop princesses, she brought her unique way of doing things as well as her sincere outlook on the world to a mad ’80s world. Even now, her honesty is truly refreshing. Get some red hair dye out and throw on a corset for a night that is sure to include a lot of bopping and crazy makeup.

Friday, August 6 – World Leadership Awards with Usher and President Clinton at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

The usual pop sensations – Justin Bieber, Usher, Ciara – sharing a stage by President Clinton makes for a slightly bizarre combination, but it makes more sense when one realizes that it’s an event being thrown by Usher’s own New Look Foundation, and Clinton (as well as Bieber) will be receiving World Leadership Awards, which honor individuals and organizations who have shown leadership in youth services.

Friday, August 6 – Here We Magic at The EARL

Luke Temple’s Here We Go Magic are ready to show Atlanta how much they’ve grown since they last visited our city. The band is joined by Living Room and Beach Fossils for the EARL show.

Saturday, August 7 – Jose Feliciano at The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater

Puerto Rican singer and virtuoso guitarist Jose Feliciano will be bringing his unique blend of classical guitar, Latin pop and American folk to Peachtree City’s Fred this Saturday.

Monday, August 9 – Built to Spill at The Buckhead Theatre

And finally, if you like your weekend to “Spill” into Monday (see what we did there?), then catch Idaho’s finest college rock act Built to Spill at the Buckhead Theatre.
