Hail The Sun – Mental Knife Tour Presented By Equal Vision & Merch Now w/ Strawberry Girls, Royal Coda, VIS & Cascadent
Thursday, September 26th at 6:00pm
Hail The Sun is a progressive post-hardcore quartet who met in Chico, CA, while studying music technology. The overlap of influences throughout the group has led them to become one of the most dynamic and intricate musical acts to come out of the scene in decades. Formed by drummer Donovan Melero and guitarist Aric Garcia (who played in a death metal band in high school), the original idea for the musical direction was to remain high-energy, while allowing melodies and harmonies to be a prominent feature, rather than just screaming to portray intense emotion. The addition of Shane Gann and John Stirrat brought additional flavors, and the group began to stretch its creative legs, allowing itself to write parts and songs that were much more heavily influenced by jazz, funk, blues, fusion, and Latin musical styles.

A mix of funky bass, break-beat drums and jazzy guitars creates a refreshing, retro sound with futuristic undertones. Michelle Obama and Guy Fieri have both publicly championed the band. Their first single, “Motion”, was made the official theme song for Ru Paul’s Drag race in 2018. Their debut project, “The Juice Vol. I” has created a cult following, generating over 30 million streams globally.

The name “FroRibbean” is a blended word that attempts to show the interconnectedness of Africans-African Americans-Caribbean people- and all those with kinks, waves, curls, and coils in their hair! This festival was created to showcase the talent that spreads across the African Diaspora and the unique aspects as well as similarities of the music that we create!
For one day, we will celebrate and bring to life the music, the food, the games, and the dances we have created all over the world, for all of our festival-goers to experience!
