Wow, this weekend is going to be a big one. Fancy pants charity functions, camp and glorious glam rock ‘n’ roll, bizarre-o comedy, a disco diva and more. Basically something for everyone. And of course we have our usual round up of on-sales. Here’s what you have to choose from:
Friday, August 20 – The Whiskey Gentry at Smith’s Olde Bar
One of Atlanta’s finest country acts (with a good chunk of southern rock attitude thrown in), The Whiskey Gentry, will be playing Smith’s Olde Bar. They’ve been building a great fan base in the past year or so, and will be sure to pack out the room.
Friday, August 20 – Kate’s Club Cabaret at W Atlanta Downtown Hotel
Get your swanky Vegas style on for the annual Kate’s Club Cabaret, which will feature lush drinks, gourmet food, lots of dancing, and a Vegas-style casino, not to mention the amazing silent auction, Mystery Gift Boxes and high-end raffles. All benefiting Kate’s Club, “a non-profit organization that empowers children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling.”
Friday, August 20 – Colour Revolt at The EARL
They’ve got a new lineup, a new label (their own) and a new record: the lads of Colour Revolt are back and in pretty good form. See how they do at The EARL this Friday.
Friday, August 20 – Miniature Tigers at Star Bar
Team Luis has a stellar lineup for us on Friday night at Star Bar: Miniature Tigers will headline and also feature the sharp sounds of Atlanta’s Young Orchids and Lera Lynn.
Friday, August 20 – Jack Johnson at Aaron’s Amphitheatre
Sometimes you just want a lovely surfer to sing some mellow songs to chill you out on a hot day. That’s where Jack Johnson comes in. He still charms the pants off of us.
Saturday, August 21 – Scissor Sisters at Buckhead Theatre
It’ll be all glitter, glam, wicked outfits, killer tunes and all round fun times when Scissor Sisters pull out all the stops (they don’t roll any other way) this Saturday at the newly-refitted Buckhead Theatre.
Saturday, August 21 – Patton Oswalt at The Tabernacle
If you like your comedy quirky and with a slightly different outlook on the world, then you’ll probably want to check out Patton Oswalt‘s smart set at The Tabernacle.
Saturday, August 21 – Beth Orton at Variety Playhouse
That lovely Beth Orton makes a lovely sound. She manages to make English folk sound fresh ‘n’ new, which isn’t too easy. We’re glad she’s back.
Sunday, August 22 – Donna Summer at Chastain Park Amphitheatre
The Queen of Disco has returned to bring you all the “Hot Stuff” to all you good and “Bad Girls” all the way until the “Last Dance.” These Donna Summer song references doing anything for you? Hopefully they’ll at least be putting you in the mood to dance.
