What’s happening this weekend, ATL? Tell us!! Just kidding. We’ll tell you. A lot of great musicians are playing The A this weekend including bluegrass greats, Oregon rockers and one extra spicy Cajun crooner.
Friday, December 6 – Ron Block @ Eddie’s Attic
Ron Block isn’t the ostentatious sort and he doesn’t need to be to stand out with his contemporary acoustic music. He’s a rare bluegrass virtuoso—on two instruments—who’s also earned respect as a writer, singer and producer. This weekend he wants to share a little of the congenial, collaborative pickin’ party that is bluegrass culture with you.
Doors at 6pm. Tickets are $16.
Friday, December 6 – Saints of Valory @ Vinyl
Saints of Valory craft dramatic, arena-ready rock filled with elegant pop hooks and shimmering guitar. Their songs are wide in scope, announcing the considerable ambition of these newcomers as they gear up for their first album. They’re playing Vinyl with an Atlanta pop quarter called the Well Reds.
Doors at 7pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the show.
Friday, December 6 – Tab Benoit w/ Sol Driven Train @ Smith’s Olde Bar
Tab Benoit is a Cajun man who’s definitely got the blues. In his teenage years, he hung out at the Blues Box, a ramshackle Baton Rouge music club run by guitarist Tabby Thomas. Playing alongside high-profile regulars at the club, Benoit learned the blues from a faculty of living legends who eventually inspired Benoit to assemble his own band – a simple bass-and-drums unit propelled by his guitar and Cajun-spiced voice.
Doors at 8pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show.
Saturday, December 7 – Packway Handle Band @ Eddie’s Attic
It all started in Athens, Georgia during a most peculiar spell when 5 or 6 bluegrass bands circulated the town. Athens, which had once spawned the B-52s, REM, Widespread Panic, and countless other acts, was now home to a competing minority of bluegrass players. The Packway Handle Band emerged from this scene. In early 2006 the band went on the road full time, wowing audiences with tight harmonies and tighter dance moves. Go see them in Decatur!
Doors at 6pm. Tickets are $14.
Saturday, December 7 – Red Fang @ The Drunken Unicorn
This heavy metal group out of Portland, Oregon is gonna rock the house and rock some foxy flannel shirts while doing it. This will be a wild beast of show!
Doors at 8pm. Tickets are $15.
Saturday, December 7 – The White Animals @ Smith’s Olde Bar
The White Animals are the great lost rock band of the 80s – a ferocious live act (any band that shared a stage with them did so at their peril) and true musical visionaries who still sound utterly fresh and contemporary. Perhaps the world wasn’t ready for the Animals back when but now we’ve been granted a second chance. Don’t blow it!
Doors at 8pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show.
Sunday, December 8 – Cliff Eberhardt @ Eddie’s Attic
We interviewed Cliff this week! Give it a look-see then get your ticket to see him live at Eddie’s Attic this Sunday!
Doors at 7pm. Tickets are $16 in advance.
Sunday, December 8 – Nth Power @ Vinyl
Nikki Glaspie + Nigel Hall + Nick Cassarino + Nate Edgar + Weedie Braimah = THE NTH POWER. The Nth Power wants to change your life through a message of musical love and understanding that will inspire you to dance, groove, make out or just stand there with goose bumps. The Nth Power will grab your attention with their hybrid brand of funk, psychedelic rock, soul and world beat.
Doors at 7pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 the day of the show.
