What a weekend! There’s celebrations of the city’s best, new wave heroes, and a few extra-special festivals too. And with the unbearable heat long gone (knock on wood), we can run around the city all day and all night and not worry about melting into the pavement. So go forth and rock out!
Thursday, September 22 – Best of Atlanta Party at Graveyard Tavern
Creative Loafing celebrates the best that this city has to offer with an epic party in East Atlanta. Free food and cocktails will be flowing while supplies last so get there early.
Thursday, September 22 – Secret Chiefs 3 at The EARL
Faith No More/Mr. Bungle’s Trey Spruance leads his experimental instrumental rock band to The EARL tonight.
Friday, September 23 – Rebirth Brass Band at Smith’s Olde Bar
The New Orleans institution brings the funk to Atlanta for yet another packed show at Smith’s on Friday.
Friday, September 23 – Blondie at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Yearning for a taste of the best new wave has to offer? It’s been decades since they formed, but Blondie still has the power to get us pogoing and wearing skinny jeans.
Saturday, September 24 – Music Midtown at Piedmont Park
We’re beyond giddy that Music Midtown is coming back to Atlanta, albeit in a slightly different form. Headliners Coldplay and Black Keys will obviously be dominating the event, but we’re also really excited to see The Contsellations, The Joy Formidable, Cage the Elephant, Manchester Orchestra and more.
Saturday, September 24 – Little Five Fest at Various Locations in Little Five Points
Five points, five stages. How can you go wrong? Star Bar, Criminal Records and Aurora Coffee have teamed up to bring you a packed lineup of West End Motel, Mermaids, Anna Kramer, The Back Pockets and more. You can also buy a dual pass for Meat Puppets at The EARL on the same day HERE.
Saturday, September 24 – Slippery When Wet: A Bon Jovi Tribute at Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater
We’re dying to see the killer Bon Jovi tribute act Slippery When Wet at Peachtree City’s charming Fred. With the temps dipping a bit, it’s perfect timing to belt out some arena-ready tunes while raising a glass of the season’s last pinot grigio in the air.
Saturday, September 24 – Elvis Costello and the Imposters at Chastain Park Amphitheare
Few can make us swoon as much as the bespeckled charmer that is Elvis Costello. From his angry young lad phase (“Radio Radio” anyone?) to his lovely collaborations with Burt Bacharach, we love a bit of Elvis.
