It’s a pretty quiet weekend as the city – nay, the world – struggles to come to terms with a new year and the end of the holidays, and possibly the tail-end of a New Year’s Eve hangover. So, much of what we have to recommend for this weekend is more on the quiet side, with a little spice from some serious punks and rockers thrown in for good measure if you are ready to get back on that horse already.
Thursday, January 5 – Lindsay Rakers and Lefty Williams at Eddie’s Attic
Lindsay Rakers and her band have become a firm folk favorite on the Atlanta music scene, and Lefty Williams has blown away many a local with his insane blues talents. Together, they will create a wonderful night of homegrown music.
Friday, January 6 – Holiday Hangover at Star Bar
If you’re still coming down gently off of the holidays, Star Bar has your cure, with performances by Back Pockets, El Fossil and Book Club, as well as holiday readings by Matt DeBenedictis, Johnny Carroll, Davy Minor and others, a Holiday Advice booth and Holiday Photo booth AND a raffle with tattoo gift certificates.
Tickets are $7 at the door.
Friday, January 6 – O’Brother at Masquerade
Atlanta’s own ambient experimental indie rockers O’Brother celebrate their album release party at Masquerade on Friday night.
Saturday, January 7 – The Kicks at Smith’s Olde Bar
Not only are we always stoked to see Nashville’s Kicks come back and rock Smith’s Olde Bar, but we’re also pretty excited to welcome back Red Letter Agent and PleaseRock side project Indianapolis Jones to the stage too.
Saturday, January 7 – The Olivia Tremor Control at The EARL
Athens-cultivated legendary college rock legends are back, and you should join a room packed with music nerds of all ages at The EARL on Saturday night to see their triumphant return.
Saturday, January 7 – Judi Chicago at Star Bar
Atlanta’s party duo are making a long-overdue appearance at their old stomping grounds for, one presumes, a night of serious stomping.
Tickets are $10 at the door.
