Alright, we’ve got a big weekend in store for you! It’s the first weekend of December and there are tons of concerts around the city on this surprisingly warm weekend, not to mention the kick off of Winter Wonder Jam!
Friday, November 30th-Cigar Store Indians at Smiths Olde Bar
The Cigar Store Indians are all Georgia natives, and have begun touring again after their song “Get on the Throttle” was used as the theme song for TV show, “Cafe Racer”. The country-rock band has been touring the south since the early 90s.
Friday, November 30th-Erin Thomas & Mary Bragg at Eddie’s Attic
Listen to Erin Thomas’ debut album “You Don’t Know Me”. Her album hit Top 10 on US Folk Radio, and the newcomer continues to rise in popularity. Catch her with Mary Bragg this weekend.
Friday, November 30th-Municipal Waste with Napalm West at Terminal West
Being blamed for starting a riot at their very first concert was what began Municipal Waste. The thrash metal band out of Virginia has been touring since the early 2000s, and have received the name “party thrash” from a lot of the media. Garnering a spot at the Download Festival in the UK, Municipal Waste has received growing attention lately. Catch them and Napalm West this weekend.
Friday, November 30th-Odist with Special Guests at The EARL
Very little limits the trio Odist, and that includes genres. The group has featured keyboardists Ikey Owens as well as Jack White. After such success the band grabbed an opening slot on with FMA’s spring tour. This weekends concert will be an intimate experience for sure at The EARL.
Friday, November 30th-Plato Jones with CBDB at Peachtree Tavern
For the best SEC Championship Pre-Game party, Peachtree Tavern is the place to be. Alabama’s own, Plato Jones, will take the stage with their fusion of jam and blues. CBDB will also be there with their “unavoidably danceable sound”.
Friday, November 30th-Ryan Horne with special guest, Mark Jackson Cole at Eddie’s Attic
With six albums and 10 years of experience, Ryan Horne can claim he knows what he is doing. He brings together a unique mix of folk music, and is produced by Grammy winning producer, Mitch Dane. Coming back to his native town, Ryan Horne will be at Eddie’s Attic with Mark Jackson Cole.
Friday, November 30th-The Mountaintop at Southwest Arts Center
Put on by True Colors Theatre Company, The Mountaintop will be at Southwest Arts Center through the holidays. The production stars Danny Johnson and Demetria McKinney, and re-imagines the events the night before Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.
Saturday, December 1st -Winter Wonder Jam series- Justin Townes Earle with John McCauley of Deer Tick and Seven Handle Sideshow at Atlantic Station
Justin Townes Earle is beginning the Winter Wonder Jam. The folk-country singer won an Americana Music Award last year for “Harlem River Blues”. He also grabbed one of the coveted Bonnaroo spots in 2009.
Saturday, December 1st-Barreracudas with Dino’s Boys at 529
The Barreracudas are bringing back the 70s/80s garage punk with vengeance. Be sure to hear their version of an iconic Cheap Tricks track. Dino’s Boys, another set of punk rockers will also be at 529.
Saturday, December 1st-Nine Times Blue at Smiths Olde Bar
More power pop goodness will be Smiths Olde Bar with Nine Times Blue, and this show will also be their CD release as well. Often compared to The Plain White T’s and Jimmy Eat World, their radio friendly sound will make this will be an even that everyone can enjoy.
Saturday, December 1st- Hannah Thomas Band with Emily Kate Boyd at Eddie’s Attic
The Hannah Thomas Band falls somewhere between the gap of country and rock. She doesn’t play within genres, and has opened for the Zac Brown Band. Hannah Thomas will be returning to Eddie’s Attic where she released a live CD earlier this year.
Saturday, December 1st-Rock by the Sea Charity Christmas Show with Will Turpin & The Way at Vinyl
Since 2006, Rock by the Sea has been raising money to fight cancer. For a show and a good cause, Will Turpin & The Way (known for his part in Collective Soul) will be at Vinyl this weekend. Proceeds will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Program in Orlando. Come to the Vinyl to show your support!
Saturday, December 1st-Sean Rivers Band at Peachtree Tavern
Country-pop artist Sean Rivers released his debut studio album earlier this spring, and has been touring and promoting it since. Raised by a family of musicians, Sean Rivers has been around music since an early age. The Sean Rivers Band will be at Peachtree Tavern this weekend.
Saturday, December 1st-Smithsonian with Andrew & the Disapyramids at The EARL
Smithsonian, the Smiths tribute band, will be coming back to the EARL with all of your favorite Smiths songs ready. Made up of Atlanta music scene veterans, the band mates have been expanding their every growing set list of Smiths favorites. Whether it be “Ask”, “Panic”, or anything else, Smithsonian is ready.
Saturday, December 1st-Eric Hutchinson at Center Stage
Even the notoriously ruthless Perez Hilton raved about Eric Hutchinson. The folk/rock singer even debuted at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. After touring with Jason Mraz, OneRepublic, and appearing with Kelly Clarkson, he is touring for his second album. “Watching You Watch Him” was on the premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, and he returned to The Late Show with David Letterman for yet another performance. Hutchinson looks like he will be the next big thing coming around.
Saturday, December 1st-The White Animals at Smiths Olde Bar
The pop-punk band out of Nashville is holding tight to the old punk roots of the 80s. The White Animals will be at Smiths Olde Bar this Saturday.
Sunday, December 2nd-Jill Andrews with special guest Moses Atwood at Eddie’s Attic
Jill Andrews came out with her debut album just last year. Inspired by singers such as Feist and Regina Spektor, Andrews is sure to be a heavy hitter with her strong vocals. Moses Atwood will be joining her with his second album.
