AMG Weekend Picks: Carnivores, Old 97’s, Larkin Poe and More!

Brrrrrr! Wrap up warm folks, this chilly weather isn’t messing around. It’ll get a bit milder over the weekend, but regardless, the wintery temperatures shouldn’t deter you from getting to some great gigs. Local music is especially being represented well this weekend, with record releases and more abound! And if you fancy the field-trip, get up to Athens for Old 97’s. Alt-country star Langhorne Slim takes on the road again, playing Athens on Friday night.

Friday, January 20 – Carnivores at The EARL

Celebrating the release of their live 7-inch recorded at The EARL, Carnivores plays with fellow local garage rock faves The Coathangers. Admission gets you a free copy of the record, so we can’t think of a better way of supporting local music.

Saturday, January 21 – Old 97’s at 40 Watt Club

The Kings of Alt-Country return to Georgia for an intimate, well-worth-the-trip show in Athens, with lead singer Rhett Miller playing a special solo opening slot.

Saturday, January 21  and Sunday, January 22 – Larkin Poe at Eddie’s Attic

Rebecca & Megan Lovell (formerly of the Lovell Sisters) bring their mix of newgrass, country and folk, along with their lovely harmonies, to Eddie’s Attic for two shows this weekend.
