It’s the first weekend of the new year! Don’t settle for anything less than awesome. What should that consist of exactly? May we present to you these shows of uncompromising awesomeness…
Friday, January 3 – Bonaventure Quartet @ Eddie’s Attic
The Bonaventure Quartet was originally just Dave and Charles who were nuts about Django Reinhardt. But they needed some low end so they dragged Mark Bynum in and became an acoustic trio. The three of them begged Amy Pike to start singing with them too and became a quartet. Since then, five other members have been added and subtracted from the equation. A quartet that’s secretly a nonet? This is worth checking out.
Doors at 6:30pm. Tickets are $15.
Friday, January 3 – The District Attorneys w/ Party Dolls @ Smith’s Olde Bar
Start 2014 off by reliving 1995 (but don’t look back in anger!) with the District Attorneys as they pay tribute to Oasis, performing (What’s the Story) Morning Glory at “Resolution Bollocks.” Party Dolls will be there too, celebrating the release of their new album.
Doors at 8pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the show.
Saturday, January 4 – Annie Sellick & The Hot Club of Nashville @ Eddie’s Attic
No, the “hot club” Annie likes to sing with is not a sandwich. It’s a hot, swingin’ jazz band that perfectly complements her sweet, sultry vocals… but we’re sure if she was offered a toasty turkey sandwich before she went on stage this Saturday, she’d accept.
Doors at 9pm. Tickets are $12. Online and phone sales end at 5pm the day of the show.
Saturday, January 4 – Ty Bates @ Eddie’s Attic
With each new song he writes, Ty’s love and passion for music grows. During school, Ty sang wherever he could … beauty pageants, talent shows, churches, fairs, even flea markets. As each appearance lead to an invitation to another stage he saw the potential of making country music a career. Get your cowboy boots on and go hear how he’s been doing since leaving the beauty pageant scene.
Doors at 6pm. Tickets are $10. Online and phone sales end at 5pm the day of the show.
Saturday, January 4 – Wesley Cook @ Smith’s Olde Bar
Wesley Cook was raised in places like Germany and South Korea. As a songwriter, listeners are sure to hear the familiar world and rhythmic influences of Dave Matthews, Paul Simon, Jason Mraz and more. “He’s one of those artists that is very tough to classify and that’s fine with him….” said Billboard.com. As a front man, his high-energy showmanship and down-to-earth charm makes it impossible for the crowd NOT to love him.
Sunday, January 5 – David Leinweber w/ Jeff Strickland @ Eddie’s Attic The Drunken Unicorn
David Leinweber has played in a wide variety of venues and musical styles, ranging from rock, to blues, to folk, to gospel. He has been featured as the “Flatpicking Professor” Dr. Leinweber at the Scottish Bluegrass Association Festival in Scotland and has also performed widely at festivals in the South.
Doors at 3pm. Tickets are $6 in advance.
Sunday, January 5 – The Barefoot Movement @ Eddie’s Attic
The Barefoot Movement have been making waves in the folk world since the release of their 2011 debut album Footwork. 2013 brought the release of a new album, cross country touring and all manners of shoeless excitement. Their new effort comes on the heels of their west coast tour and features all the elements that make up the Barefoot sound: lush harmonies, thoughtful instrumentation, and memorable melodies.
Doors at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 in advance.
Sunday, January 5 – Cruel Hand w/ Criminal Instinct @ The Drunken Unicorn
Prepare to fist pump at the Unicorn with these hardcore bands. Blind Justice and Sadistic Ritual will also be making appearances.
Doors at 8pm. Tickets are $10 in advance.
