It’s looking to be a bit of a mellow weekend coming up. We must all be taking it easy to rev up for next week’s patriotic holiday weekend. But we still have some great, laid-back choices to get you out of the house.
Thursday, June 23 – Kopecky Family Band at The Masquerade
Recently having played at Bonnaroo, Nashville’s Kopecky Family Band (and no they are not related) brings their eccentric show to Purgatory in the Masquerade. A Paste Magazine favorite, their refreshing sound has the same intensity you would find with early Arcade Fire.
Thursday, June 23 – Misfortune 500, Plain Jane Automobile, & The District Attorneys at The Basement
Local favorites, The District Attorneys play with Orlando rockers, Plain Jane Automobile, who were recently described by KCRW’s Nic Harcourt as being reminiscent of an early U2. Athens band MISFORTUNE500 is be closing the night at the Basement in East Atlanta.
Friday, June 24 – Steve Miller Band at Chastain Park Amphitheatre
If you’re feeling a bit classic and a bit rock this weekend, then you’ll probably be checking out a classic rock legend in the form of Steve Miller Band. What better way to wile away the humid Atlanta hours than with a bottle of wine, some cheese and a soundtrack that includes “Fly Like An Eagle” and “The Joker”?
Friday, June 24 – Blair Crimmins and the Hookers w/ A Fight to the Death at The EARL
If your tastes include more of a smoky room with boozy dixie-style rock and gypsy tunes, then you’ll be catching locals Blair Crimmins and the Hookers and A Fight to the Death.
Saturday, June 25 – Mock-A-Palooza at RiRa The Irish Pub
Saturday afternoon brings a mammoth outdoor block party with cover bands Desire (U2), Sex Type Thing (Stone Temple Pilots), Siamese Dream (Smashing Pumpkins) and Grassroots (311).
Sunday, June 25 – Old School Saturday at Westin Peachtree Plaza
But if you need to get some true R&B and hip-hop classics back in your veins, then there will be no other place to go but the monthly mega-event that is Old School Saturday, which is always a hit.
