AMG Weekend Picks! Andrew Ripp, AWOLNATION, Delta Moon, and more!

Alright Atlanta, we are just a few weeks away from the New Year, and that means that musicians and bands are packing in shows before January hits!  That is, if we make it past this 2012 prediction of the Mayans, but just all the more reason to see the best of what Atlanta has to offer this weekend.  Here are your weekend picks:

Friday, December 14th-Andrew Ripp at Vinyl

Last year around this time, Andrew Ripp put out his Christmas EP, meaning not only will he be bringing his music from his first two albums, but will surely be playing some holiday favorites as well.  Join him for his Christmas tour for “Light of Mine” at Vinyl.

Friday, December 14th-American Aquarium and The Quaildogs at Smiths Olde Bar

Fusing rock and roll and alternative country, the Raleigh natives will be at Smiths Olde Bar this weekend.  Five years and five albums, and these guys have had enough experience to put on a great show.  Head to Smiths Olde Bar this weekend!

Friday, December 14th-Funk You & Dank Sinastra at Peachtree Tavern

Funk You’s progressive funk music is known to not only be high energy, but will keep you dancing for the entire night.  The six piece band out of Augusta is one to see for a night of fun and dancing!

Friday, December 14th-Jeffrey Butzer & T.T. Mahony perform ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ at The EARL

Join Atlanta native at The EARL for his unique tracks, meant to fill the scores of his favorite films.  Inspired by Eastern European films, Butzer intended his music to sound like the instrumentals behind films.  He will be performing “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at The EARL this weekend.

Friday, December 14th-OPAS Presents a Family Holiday Celebration at The Plaza Arts Center

For one of the best holiday productions this season, head to The Plaza Arts Center.  For a time warp back to the days of Bing Crosby and Dean Martin, and their fantastic holiday performances.

Friday, December 14th-Tanz Farm-Series 2: zoe | juniper, Sidra Bell, Staib Dance, & Klimchak at The Goat Farm

Head to the Goat Farm for a night of dance.  Husband wife team Zoe Scofield and Juniper Shuey work together to combine dance, choreography, and video.  New York Times said their combination of videos of the dancers paired with the dancers themselves is handled with “rare skill”.

Friday, December 14th-The Bitteroots with Kristen Englenz at Eddie’s Attic

Rock quartet, The Bitteroots, have just come out with their sophomore effort, Central of Georgia.  For the past four years, the band has been hitting festivals and concerts around Georgia.  Head to Eddie’s Attic for an intimate experience with your local band.

Friday, December 14th-The Gifts of the Magi at The Balzer Theater at Herren’s

For a classic Christmas experience, The Blazer Theater is where you need to be! Telling the story of a penniless couple in New York City during Christmas, The Gifts of the Magi is the perfect holiday tale of love.

Saturday, December 15th-Delta Moon Holiday Party and Live Recording at Eddie’s Attic

Having released their album, Black Cat Oil, this year, the band is touring and ready.  They will be at Eddie’s Attic doing a live recording this weekend.  For a unique experience to be part of their recording check out Delta Moon.

Saturday, December 15th-Gannon Adams and Travis Denning with Marty Evans & Lauren St. Jane and the Dead Westerns at The 567

The country singer will be at The 567 this weekend.  He has shared the stage with Merle Haggard, and other huge country names.

Saturday, December 15th-KEEP ON MOVIN’ RocknSoul Dance Party at The Basement at Graveyard Tavern

Get ready to dance!  RocknSoul Dance Party will be bringing music to The Basement all night long.  50s and 60s rock ‘n’ roll, soul, girl bands, and everything else will be featured throughout the night.

Saturday, December 15th-Kindered the Family Soul at The Loft

The American R&B and soul duo are coming to The Loft. Since the early 2000s, the duo have been working diligently and have released four albums and seven singles.

Saturday, December 15th-Lingo with Bear Left at Peachtree Tavern

Lingo, like their name suggests, has been working on creating a unique genre of music all to themselves.  Check out the band who refuses to be limited by genre lines this weekend at Peachtree Tavern.

Saturday, December 15th-Old School Saturday (OSS) with DJ Biz Markie at Hyatt Regency Atlanta

Get your party dress and tux ready for a night of class with DJ Biz Markie.  By tickets in advance and save on the prices as well!

Saturday, December 15th-Radiolucent with Neil Cribbs at Vinyl

With influences ranging from 60s rock to gospel and then all the way over to country, Radiolucent will be a one of a kind show.  The Athens band also bring in their southern heritage to create a unique southern rock ‘n’ roll experience.

Saturday, December 15th-Sumilan at Peachtree Tavern

Through heavy experimentation, the Georgia grown band has created an ambient, alternative rock genre all to their own.  Head to Peachtree Tavern to see the Athens natives.

Saturday, December 15th-The Kicks at Smiths Olde Bar

Pushing all the other “muck” away, The Kicks are here to provide their audience with a true listening experience with their music.  They force listeners to really listen to the music and not get caught up in anything else.

Saturday, December 15th-Winter Wonder Jam with AWOLNATION at Atlantic Station

AWOLNATION will be playing at the third week of Winter Wonder Jam at Atlantic Station.  The electronic rock band is signed with Red Bull Records, meaning their performance will be anything but low energy.  Their music has been featured on Sons of Anarchy and  Vampire Diaries, and has even hit Top 10 on Billboard Rock Songs.

Sunday, December 16th-Jennifer Daniels’ Christmas Show at Eddie’s Attic

Josh Jackson from Paste Magazine called Daniels “a sound that wanders from alt-country to haunting folk rock delivering her poetry with an urgency to match it’s message”. For ten years, the singer has been touring about the south and is going to be at Eddie’s Attic this weekend.  For a night of alternative country, head to the cozy venue.
