Nothing Stays the Same
Thirsty Ear Recordings
DJ Wally’s release, Nothing Stays the Same is a soundtrack for slick city living and progression of destination. A mix of instruments brass, reeds, bass, solid beats and electronic bafflement, this is one release you’ll want to spin from beginning to end.
DJ Wally’s ensemble includes Guillermo E. Brown (drums), Daniel Carter (reeds), Keef Destefano (samples), Peter Gordon (acoustic and electric flute), Khan Jamal (vibes), William Parker (bass), Matthew Shipp (piano), David S. Ware (saxophone). Together, the group creates a precariously pleasant sound with a beat that will find you commanding a Manhattan sidewalk as the leading actor in this year’s asskick flick ('A Day in the Life'). Saxaphones of the cool sort, not the Bill Clinton kind, then find you cruising by the lights of the city in relaxed style ('A Night in Savannah'). Suddenly you’re running for your life to the urgency of dark piano pangs, sounding less George Winston and more John Grisham ('Shipp Solo'). Finally, you’re floating in outer space, face-to-face with an e! lectronic force that soothes and envelopes you ("A-Plus").
All tracks on Nothing Stays the Same are multi-faceted and complex, stimulating the intellectual imagination and transporting listeners from current settings. The compilation, if in the hands of film producers, could undoubtedly catapult simple images into head-turning scenes or simply sling you from recliner to escaped reality.
