Vintage indie rockers, Sebadoh, helped pioneer lo-fi music, a style of indie rock characterized by low-fidelity recording techniques, often on four-track machines. In March of 2012, Lou Barlow reissued the early recordings of Weed Forrestin’ on the Sebadoh bandcamp, available in a digital download, double cd, vinyl, and deluxe edition with the Child of the Apocaylpse sessions as a cassette tape. They were chosen by Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel to perform at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival that he curated in March 2012 in Minehead, England. In July 2012, Sebadoh released Secret EP on the Sebadoh bandcamp, available in a digital download. Physical copies are only available at the shows of their upcoming tour. What’s the first gig you ever attended?
I attended a Joan Baez concert in 1973. She kissed me and said “He’s big.”
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
Reading Festival where the whole band took fast acting, powerful, unfamiliar drugs minutes before playing before an audience of 5000 people. Lou broke several guitars during the set while being screamed at by the only person more screwed up than us, Courtney Love. This left me and drummer Bob Fay to do some high-energy improvisation while beaming with chaotic joy at our good fortune.
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
“Thinking Fellers Union Local 282” in Bloomington Indiana in the mid 90’s.
What is the gig you would most like to play?
One where I effortlessly become a mindless observer of my body transforming into a channel of infinite knowlege and bliss that spreads throughout the audience and eventually into every molecule of the universe until all sentient beings forget to make a distinction between themselves and the universe. All language would become useless, and everyone would live in enlightened extacy for the duration of what used to be called “time.”
