Justin Kennedy was born and raised in the great state of Georgia. He began writing music at the age of 13 and playing all instruments since the age of 6. He has been featured on 94.9 the bull on the bull’s Backyard Country and is a favorite on the Atlanta country station. He joined us for our 5GB Series before his show this Friday at Smith’s Olde Bar.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
The first gig I ever went to was in the 90’s at The Cotton Club in Atlanta. I went to see Angie Aparo with my parents. Its a night I’ll never forget. He is one of my hero’s in music. I got to play 3 shows with him over the last year or so which was one of the highlights of my career so far!
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed at?
The best gig as a band we have ever played was about 4 months ago at the 40 Watt in Athens. We had The Well Reds on the bill with us. They KILLED the opening set and we came on and I really felt like we gave the fans a show that they truly enjoyed!
What is the best gig you have ever been to?
The best show I’ve ever seen….that’s a hard one. I’m constantly seeing shows as much as as I possibly can.. but the most memorable was Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Arena Gwinett or getting to see Butch Walker in Athens at the 40 Watt.
Gig you would most like to play?
The gig I would most like to play is an easy one for me. Anything at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. It’s my favorite place to see a concert and my favorite venue in the U.S. It has been my dream since I was little. My dad telling me stories about seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd there back in 1977, or me going to see bands there like the Black Crowes, Ryan Adams. Its one of the biggest goals of my music career because of the amazing bands that have stood on that historic stage.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
This question is a hard one. There are so many bands that I would die to have the chance to play with. I mean obviously the legends, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Rush, Cash.. etc… But honestly a Tour I would like to get on with bands would be With Ted Nugent/Lynyrd Skynyrd/ Justin Kennedy at the Fox Theater. That would be the best gig in my opinion for me to be able to have.
