Although a man of few words, Greg Laswell has accumulated a cult following in the singer songwriter world for his sweet voice and sad songs. Having just had some of his favorite females play on his latest album (including Ingrid Michaelson, Sia, Sara Bareilles and Elizabeth Ziman from Elizabeth and the Catapult), he joined us for our 5GB series before his show tonight.
What’s the first gig you ever attended?
Chicago at the Hollywood Bowl with my parents. I was 12.
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
The first time I sold out the Bowery Ballroom in New York 2 years ago. My tour manager held up a sign side stage that he had written “SOLD OUT” in sharpie. I was a few seconds into my first song. That show turned into the best show I feel I’ve ever done.
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
Tool, Cox Arena, 2007.
Gig you would most like to play?
For some reason I’ve always had my sites set on a venue called Spreckels Theater in San Diego. Maybe because it seemed so lofty when I first started playing solo shows when I still lived there.
