Husband and wife duo, Elenowen come out of the same Nashville folk duo-ness, that hatched The Civil Wars. In 2011, Elenowen made their national television debut on the top-rated premiere season of NBC‟s The Voice. They are playing Eddie’s Attic tonight with singer/songwriter, Ryan Horne and joined us for our 5GB series.
What’s the first gig you ever attended?
Josh: Amy Grant concert. Right when “Baby Baby” was her huge hit.
Nicole: I always draw a blank on this, but the first concert I remember where I have a vivid memory of is the brother/sister duo, LaRue. (which is crazy/awesome that we’re now good friends with both of them & Phillip LaRue produced our latest EP!)
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
Our first headlining gig in Nashville over a year ago was at 3rd & Lindsley and that always sticks out in our minds. We had pretty low expectations as far as the amount of people that would show up & if they’d be attentive, etc. We ended up packing the place out & everyone seemed really into every song. We kept having to remind ourselves that we were the headliners & all the people came to see us. It’s always a boost when our expectations are exceeded.
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
We still can’t get over when we saw Damien Rice at The Ryman several years back. His records were all we listened to in the early years of our relationship, & his show was so diverse. He incorporated multiple genres of music, told hilarious & yet touching stories, & even had some theatrical/musical moments.
What is the gig you would most like to play?
Festival-wise, we’d love to play Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, etc. On a smaller scale, we’ve always loved Nashville’s Ten out of Tenn. And of course, it’s a dream of ours to play at the GRAMMY Awards.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
Whew that’s a toughy! Right now we can’t get enough of Dawes & Brandi Carlile. We’d love to tour with either of them. Also, playing with Ryan Adams would be the end all.
